Cams come in different grinds for different applications. Similiar to porting, you can get a cam that has a good spread of power everywhere, a top end cam that is most effecient from the middle of the powerband till redline, or a torque cam that pulls hard off idle like a diesel but signs off way before redline.
There is no best cam, only the best for your intentions. Try to pick a cam or cams that will compliment your existing mods such as a pipe or porting. For an example, it would make no sense for 24V to put torque cams in his YFZ if his porting, carburator, and pipe were maximized for top end flow.

IMO a cam is the best bolt on (or should i say in) mod you can do to a 4 stroke aside from uncorking the exhuast.

What are you looking to change the cam in 1500 ??? Some cams require new springs also just fyi.

The cam is the brain for the valves it tells it how long to open for and how high to lift the valves. Higher lift cams do require you to change the spring because you are exerting more force on the springs because they are lifting higher and with more force.
