Another Fire pit to clean up after angryfire.gif

I can't believe the assholes that are compelled to through glass in the fire angryfire.gif

Boy I'm getting tired of cleanning these up, going to have to make a screen shifter

I only drink Corona out of a bottle, but don't through it in the fire, it really will melt you don't have to try it anymore!

What a bunch of assholes, its a fire pit not a damn garbage can. angryfire.gif

BTW thanks for clening it up even though you shouldn't have to.
Permagrin
I once made a big stink on a guy who was tossin his bottles into the fire..
Told him he wasnt going to be invited back if he was gonna keep it up.
Sandwizard
Ya, I had one of those once, Just had to through cans and bottles in the fire, keep looking at me like I was WTF, just did not get it, never had him camp with us again.

I was thinking of writing a list of "Dune Etiquettes" and plastering on the side of the enclosed

Don't get me wrong, I really don't like cleanning up someone elses mess, but I just can't leave it there. Especially when it's by my camp angryfire.gif
Kevin
its really only a problem with those that dont clean up their fire mess when they leave.
Sandwizard
Sorry Kevin, it's like saying you going to clean up the nails after burning pallets

You never get them all out, just like the glass. icon_mad.gif

I camp on the pads (4) off Gecko as do most who camp in this area, and when you leave it's 100% sure its somebody elses camp spot the next day or weekend.

You just never know who's little boy or girl is going to get a bad cut by playing in the sand. And weather you like it or not it's more of a camping park that the wide open desert of yester year. blink.gif

I feel your pain sandwizard. I have cleaned dozens of them. You have to wear gloves that are thick, use a solid stick or prod and go to town. It's crazy, people bring eff*ing bottles. What do they think? That it will magically disappear? I also get lots of cans and parts. I don't mind cleaning my wash, but the glass is hard to get out, especially if there are lots of little pieces.
Kevin
a few times when cleaning out the fire pit i have found glass in it, yet there was no glass thrown in at all. figure that one out.

last weekend my bro Cuzzin Eddie was thowin stuff on the fire, Fri and Sat nite...come time to go home Sunday, he poured water over the fire pit, went out for a ride, and then cleaned up the pit after he got back...finished loading his gear and drove on home...even picked up some other stuff left from other campers at 13.5

It is very simple, don't throw anything in that DOES NOT BURN!!! For anyone confused, melting IS NOT burning. ie no glass or metal thumb.gif I do not want a flat tire! angryfire.gif

btw "cleaning" the fire pit should just be covering up a hole of FINE ash, nothing else
Astars(old)
I don't understand why people do that. But glad to hear that your helping out with other peoples crap, Thanks.

And pallets shouldn't be burned either.

It's called a fire pit so you burn wood. Not little plastic jello shooter cups, plastic cups or anything else plastic. wood, paper and stuff like that is cool.

I've had jackasses try to explain to me that their beer cans will burn up in a while. Next morning, I pick a couple jagged hunks of melted aluminum out of the embers and go show them to the kids that knew a friend of a friend and ended up in our camp, and they're dumbfounded. Are people really this stupid?

If the fire gets hot enough couldn't it melt the sand therefore making glass. just a guess. icon_confused.gif

I dont think so. Ive seen a vw case burn and not make glass outa sand so i dont think yer hot coles are going to do it. could be wrong though?
jhitesma
Melting point for sand to create glass is around 1,700 celcius. That's 3,092 farenheight.

Glass mixutures used to create bottles and such have a much lower melting point (around 1,000 celcius) because of additives mixed with the sand.

Think about this - when casting metal sand is usually used to create the forms. So it takes more heat to make glass out of sand than it does to melt aluminum, cast iron, steel and most other metals.

To make glass out of sand your fire would have to be awfully big, and built just right to encourage enough airflow to keep the temps WAY WAY up there for an extended period. It could be done...but it's probably not going to happen without trying.
