Okay, so my buddy who hasn't made a dune trip since Halloween pulls out his Banshee the other day. It's been sitting under a tarp in the side yard of my old house pretty much all season. I determined this to be a bad idea, so we moved it over to the house where I live now, washed it good, and are in the process of giving it a once-over before storing it in the garage from this point forward.

There's a bit of surface rust on the rear axle. This is not a stock axle, I don't know who made it, but it's +2" if I'm not mistaken. Looks to be chromoly or some other steel. How worried should we be about this rust, and what would be the recommended method of removal?

Is it just surface rust or?surface rust i woud'nt worry about it,
PimpShackDave
It appears to be just surface rust, more ugly than dangerous. But no one likes ugly...

steel wool and WD40 (gently!!!) then spray the whole bike down with WD before u put it away. the dust that will stick to it makes a nice coat of muck that will protect all the exposed metal parts!

I told bonehead he can store it in my garage from now on, so no worries in the future. laughing.gif Thanks for the advice on the WD & steel wool, anything I should do to it once it's clean, or just leave it?

John, you're only one of the many...the problem is that Sarah's dad's trailer blocks the gate on one side of the yard, and my trailer blocks the gate on the other side. We had to wait for him to go to the dunes on a weekend that I didn't get to tag along.
