As some of you may have read already, the DB.com crew is building a new race car and our first race with this car will be the Best In The Desert "McMillin Nevada 1000" taking place July 6th through 10th near Tonopah, NV. To say we are excited would be a huge understatement. We work on that race car every day on top of our normal work load. All of us are definitely fired up and ready to tackle this challenge.

A funny story... today all of us took turns sitting in the seats so we could work out the details of where everything needs to be positioned. It was all smiles among us as we sat in the car. I even made vroom vroom noises. icon_biggrin.gif We have made a lot of progress on the car but still have a long way to go.

And Chuck says before the race we need to get in at least another 2000-3000 miles of practice driving in the desert. Or damn, sucks to be us. icon_biggrin.gif

As a lot of you know Cortni and I had to cancel our Idaho trip because of this race. But I'm not going to pass up the opportunity to race a $150,000+ real race buggy. No way, no how.

I have dreams every night of working on this car and getting it perfect for the race. I guess I'm a tad bit excited... ya think? headbang.gif

So anyway, if any of you have that week free and want to come cheer us on, that would be cool. The general location is about 200 miles north of Vegas.

Here is some race info:

So.... Where's the pics?

Well this is our car in roller form before we started really working on it. Next week it gets the aluminum body. Then we will be almost finished getting it ready.

I remember seeing that. NICE! What's the specs on the car.
I know it has 4" bypass but motor, trans, electronics, camera, etc? COngrats. I'm putting together a new Class 12 car for myself and i can't wait!
QueenGlamis
Race car is being built. icon_biggrin.gif I am very excited about this race!!! And I would NOT give up the Idaho trip for just anything! whip.gif The race car is bad ass to say the least! Baja is 2 years away, right Chuck? icon_wink.gif
KingGlamis
The car is very similar to a regular SideWinder except it has the higher sides, and thicker wall tubing in some key places. It also has huge 4" King bypasses in the rear. The trans is a Fortin FRS sequential. Engine is a stout LS2. The trans is geared for 130mph or so, depending on how high we want to rev the engine.
Xtreme Motorsports
Cool. When i'm done i hope to have something similar to this.
A few of my specs:
King Kong Drop Spindles with front disk brakes
930 Mid Board Hubs
Centerline Wheels with OMF Beadlocks
Fortin Shifter
PCI Radio & Intercom
PCI 7" Color GPS
2" King Coil Over Shocks
Rear 3" King 3 Tube Bypass Shocks
Front 2" King 3 Tube Bypass Shocks
35 Gallon FuelSafe Cell
4 Speed MD4S-2D Mendeola Transmission
Fluidyne Oil Cooler with Fan
Racepak Digital Gauges Systems
5 lb fire suppression system
Charlyn Power Steering Assembly w/ Lee Pump and Filtered Reservoir
Adam Wiks Air Cooled VW Motor

I drove one and was instantly hooked! Can't wait for next season.
Xtreme Motorsports
Oh Ya, Bright Orange with Candy Green flames! That ought to get some attention!

Kingglamis, beware. Once you drive one, you can't sleep at night anymore. icon_smile.gif
KingGlamis
Cool Alan. What series races do you plan to run?

As for electronics... holy cow. The car will have a lot. A Racepack digital dash, plus normal gauges, two big-screen GPS units, two seperate intercom systems, Kenwood race radio, and four onboard cameras that record the video directly to a computer hard drive (a new bling bling system we found).

Oh I know. My Dad raced SCORE in the early 90s. I was one of the pit captains. And I also got to race in the '93 Baja 500. But we raced Class 9 back then. This is obviously a much more capable car. I'm fricken stoked!
QueenGlamis
I am thinking I would make a great co-pilot. I can read and decipher a GPS, radio, and read a map. I can change tires and help wrench thumb.gif. I know what most of the parts are on the buggy and I am not afraid to get dirty, dusty or greasy. And I weigh in about 125-130 pounds, helps on the weight issue. icon_wink.gif Hey I am trying here damn it! icon_biggrin.gif
YFZ4KT
sounds awesome, if you need an extra driver just ask, I will be more than happy to help out........of course I am guessing I will have to stand in line and take a number.... laughing.gif 25cheers.gif looks like this is going to be one kick azzzz car for sure....good luck

What's with all of the "Tonopah to Tonopah" stages? blink.gif

So, let's see here. From Vegas to Beatty you can stop at Amargosa Dunes.

Then just after Tonopah, you can swing by Crescent Dunes.

And a bit down the road you can detour down to Silver Peak and check out Clayton Valley Dunes.

Plenty of sand for you..... icon_biggrin.gif beer.gif

Would love to make those detours but I doubt our race schedule will allow them. Perhaps next year.
QueenGlamis
Crowdog,
I am giving up 10 days in the best sand in the country for this race. We actually considered going to St. Anthony for 4 days and then to the race, but I think we will be needed here for race prep! icon_biggrin.gif I am VERY excited, can't wait! icon_biggrin.gif

I wasn't trying to compare Nevada's dunes to St. Anthony rolleyes.gif , just trying to let you know there are some dunes real close to where you'll be. Crescent is probably 15-20 miles outside of Tonopah. If you are hanging out in Tonopah, you could check them out if your schedule permits.
QueenGlamis
Will do and thanks for the info! icon_biggrin.gif thumb.gif

Alan, cool buggy! Are we going to see you there then? icon_biggrin.gif

I probably won't have this done until late this year. We're shooting for Laughlin as the first race next year. We'll see what happens.

KG - SCORE & BITD races. Just depends on how much time and money we have as to which races. Next year we'd like to hid laughlin, parker 425 and the baja 1000. We'll see.
JDMeister
I guess I could go... thumb.gif
Bohica
We'll miss you guys in Idaho. icon_sad.gif

Did you give Larry your spot.
bukithed
Larry already had a spot from a prior cancellation icon_smile.gif

Actually just let Aura Lee know last night Doug and Cortni wouldn't be there this year so some lucky person should have received a call today...
bukithed
BTW-looks like we may stay til Wednesday the 13th and then head out to Kent and Trudy's in SLC and spend the rest of the week at Little Sahara. Anyone up to joining us?

Are you keeping up with the SCORE rules change drama? What a bunch of BS. plthumbsdown.gif

You're giving up St Anthony for a FOUR DAY race???

Let's see... 4 days to cover 1,000 mi? I thought it was supposed to be a race? I think Wayno could win that driving the motorhome, with plenty of stops for pictures. icon_wink.gif

J/K!

Sounds like great fun! Can't wait to see pics and video of this. Are you guys gonna have a chase chopper?

thefinger.gif I'll bet there are 4 year old buggies that don't have 1000 miles on them. icon_biggrin.gif

We're going to invite our chopper pilot buddy to get some video. But it's too far off to know if he will be able to make it.
QueenGlamis
Well it is just North of Vegas...icon_biggrin.gif May have to get together for uh, post race meetings, yeah that's it! We will probably be gone for a full week. Trust me, it took some convincing from KG to sign me up. I was all for going to St. Anthony, figured that I could hitch a buggy ride from some one. icon_biggrin.gif But racing it is!
Esco
sounds like you guyz will have a blast thumb.gif
PWR MAD
KG & QG, you're in for the of road time of your life. In the mid 80's I had a good friend who managed the tire shop that Cork McMillan got his race tires done. I had a decent truck then and he invited us to help pit at 3 of the baja, two of the then called Mint, and 1 of the short course races. I'll never forget the excitement of the Class 8 trucks and Class 1 unlimited cars going by at speed. I so envy you right now.

Well, if you don't get to drive at least 250 mi of the race, I say you blow that popsicle stand and come up to ID. icon_wink.gif

Plenty of rails and sand up there! headbang.gif

Did you guys build it to the new rules? It looks like this could keep us from racing Score in our current car.

The new requirements for SCORE (class 12) are 1.5" X .120 for a 2200 pound car.

We are building it from 1 1/2" X .120 4130 Chromoly tube just to be safe. I've been in major discussions with SCORE to find out exactly what they mean by certain terminology. But we're still going to build it to based upon the new rules.

We didn't. The chassis was complete long before we heard any talk of any new rules. But that's OK. There are other organizations that we can race in. But if we build another race car it will definitely be SCORE legal (also known as overkill).

Screw score, After racing in two seasons down there, I got to ride in some BITD races, Casey knows how to put on a race! That and no mexican booby-traps, I vowed I would never race in mexico again, the I got hard up for some seat time and raced a CODE race, I realized all the things I disliked about racing in Mexico were related to SCORE.

Still, It's all about BITD, good luck KG

Here's a bit of "Urban Legend" for you... Sal Fish, owner of SCORE, farms out the trophy work to a third cousin or some such.

So, guess what you can buy after the SCORE 1000?

First place trophies for any class...

My ex-race partner came in second in class 9, bought the first place trophy that afternoon.

How 'bout those apples..???

So.. Doug..
