anyone have a good combo that works out.
deciding between the dual kadrons, single weber44idf,or the progressive in that order.

Motor is 1776,100 cam,stock heads.For a 2+2 rail getting rancho trans 4.86 r&p close 3,4 gears.

dual kadrons get my vote....single weber is good IF you use a heated manifold and like cleaning the idle jets when clogged....progressive tends to bog off idle ...just when you need power......

Think of the bigger pic !. Where do you think you will be in a couple years with a vw ! rollsmile.gif I ran a vw from a 1915 single carb (bernie bergman blink.gif ) motor to a 2276 pauter with dual 48 ida's whip.gif then went to 48idf's on the 2276 p motor for drivability in the dunes. Then after countless tweeking on the dual carbs ( 10- 15 years of duning and effen with carbs ) and thousands of VW dollars $, I decided to do the switch to a subie 2.0 turbo,,,,,,,,,,,,,, There is only one way to describe the switch icon_smile.gif icon_smile.gif icon_smile.gif icon_smile.gif icon_smile.gif : icon_smile.gif .

Save yourself the heart ache and $$$$$$$, Get a Subie !. You can get a motor for under a grand and computer wiring and harness for another 1500..... Then just get a radiator, adapters, do the plumbing/ wiring and your good to GO,,,, For even your next chassis !!!!.

If you can find one get a Zenith, they are great carbs.

I pretty much just want a putter for the dunes. i know the subies haul(and if i was building a rail to go fast that would be the motor i would use) but i am already on a budget now i am doing the work myself on the rail i just need to get the trans, bunh of misc small pieces, paint then play headbang.gif .

Many say you only want to faster i just want to climb the dunes without trans rebuilds every year.I am building this rail for my wife and 3 yr old to ride in
RTE
I run a single 40 IDF Weber(NO Heat tubes...No Need) on an 1835 and swing axle with low gears and 4.86 r&p...Not the fastest but goes everywhere I need to go & climbs like a goat.

Just a long term thing????

Go with at least a dual set up (assuming you have DP heads ) !.
Midsubie
I have a set of dual delardos I am selling. PM me if interested, I have no use for them. I also have a single weber.

I have dual dells on my 1776. They work but I'm still not happy with the jetting on them....but after spending $60 on jets it's close enough....anyone who says carbs are cheaper than EFI has never had to buy many jets - they add up quick! Espically in the webbers/dells where you have emulsion tubes, idle jets, main jets, and accelerator jets.

I ran a webber synchronous on an 1835 for a season and it worked pretty well. I had a progressive but couldn't get it to play nice. Swapped the jets over to the synchronous that I ran on my 2.0 Pinto and bolted it on instead...ran fine on the 1835. Lot easier to jet than the two dells on my motor too!

I'll be selling my 1776 turnkey very soon though. Getting ready to pop a 2.3 Ford into the Manx instead. When I do the 1776 will go up for sale ready to bolt in and run for anyone who wants to deal with a noisy little air-cooled motor.

PWR MAD
For the smaller non stroker motor with a close ratio trans, I know several guys who use a single Weber. Especially for hard packed running. I've got dual 40 Dellortos on an 1835, which worked great in a light buggy. I bought dual 44 Webers for the new motor, but haven't quite gotten them dialed in yet. If you can pick up a used carb, that might save you some $$. They're roughly $800 a pair with mainifolds, air cleaners, and linkage.

I have a single 44 Weber on my 1835 and it works great. I know that I could get more power from dual 40's but dont want the headaches. It does just fine now.

I had a 1600 with a Zenith and it was a great carb, I swear I could dump sand down the thing and it would still run fine!

You can find Zenith carbs on the samba from time to time, just run a search in the classified section.

And EFI is supposedly expensive?!?!?

You could put injection on TWO motors for that much and they'd be running better than with any carbs - plus you won't have to keep spending money on jets to get it dialed in just right.

Alright 77charger. Here is my input. I just sold a 1776 with 110, 044 heads dual Webber 40s and all the other fancy stuff. I drove the car 'Standard travel 2 seater" for 4 trips and then dumped the motor. The motor had good power but put a passenger in it and its crap.

My advice to you would be get your trans close ratio 1-4 not just 3-4. I was contantly having to grab 1st gear especially with a passenger. My trans was 3.88 gear and close 3rd and 4th. your 4.86 r&p will help alot but if it's not built yet, go with close 1-4. Your trans gearing is going to be crucial to your happiness.

I used dual 44's on an 1835 (stock) with the smaller venturi's and a type 1 close ratio transform mid-engine trans with the 486r/p and that thing hauled butt. Had a hell of a time with the idle jets getting clogged until I went with the billet air cleaner stand and dual outerwear's along with 3 pre fuel filters, then I never had an issue til it sold.
Terrain Twister
I'm running dual kadrons on the car we have now. It's just a stock DP 1600 though and is by no means anything other than a putter. Inexpensive to run and they've been great carbs for the car and what it was built for, a putter. I just followed the advice on lowbudget.com and have had great luck. Upgrading the trans is next on the list though so I can actually use what little power the motor makes more efficiently. PM me if you have any other questions.
Burn
Single 40-44, get the nice billet air cleaners and you won't have to worry too much about the idle jets.
