Ok - people have been asking for it so let's set a date and get going. To coincide with the south dunes cleanup and my birthday I'm going to propose the following dates:

Friday February 28th - Sunday March 2nd.

The cleanup is on the 1st and my b-day is the 5th so this so be a good weekend. It's also plenty in advance to beat anyone to the excuses [Smile]

So let's start ideas about who's going to bring what and where the official camp will be centered.

I'm partial to Gordon's well and can provide a grill or two, probably a volleyball net and ball, along with a number of camp surprises [Big Grin]

I'd suggest we find a spot along the canal where we'll be nice and easy to find even for those who are afraid of getting stuck in the flats.

Whoops, that's what happens when I make plans at 3AM [Smile]

The cleanup is March 1st which is a saturday.

So that's the weekend I'm proposing. It's actually:

Sorry about that!

That sounds cool to me. I've been down there a few times, but never camped down there. And the breakfast bowl at Pair-A-Dice is killer! Count me in Jason, and as long as Cortni's not busy that weekend, her too. I could probably talk a few more people into coming as well... [Big Grin]

Just bringing this back towards the top to remind people again. I've been talking to some people who aren't affiliated with any groups who are planning on heading out that weekend and also some ASA people and it sounds like we may be able to get one heck of a BIG gathering together.

Hmmm....maybe I'll head out to Gordon's this weekend and get some GPS coords for a good spot...it's just so hard to drive past Buttercup without duning. Wait, I can take the bridge that way I can dune as soon as I get to the sand and still head over to Gordon's to get some coords....that's the key!
KingGlamis
Jason, maybe a photo session ride would be good on this trip. I have almost no pics of the south dunes and need some.
jhitesma
I'm going to try and make every ride a photo session ride from now on so sure [Smile]

I just hope I can keep the rail together this year so I make it further than the flats!

So far though the south dunes don't seem quite a bad this year as last. Usually by now buttercup valley is a mess but last weekend it was actually fairly clean. I haven't made it up to Gordon's yet this year but I hope to on saturday, and I've heard rumors that Test may need some serious help this year which really bums me out since that's one of my all time favorite hills [Frown]

I just hope we get enough people out do make a big difference - it seems some people are bound and determined to try and draw people away on this important weekend [Frown]
Jason
I'll be turning the BIG 30 on March 2nd so bring gifts accordingly [Big Grin] .
I love Gordons just for the Pair-o-Dice alone but don't bother going the extra milage from OC to get down there. Lynn is a great cook over there and the pitchers of beer are a great time to be had.
jhitesma
Was just talking to Kathy at DelMar over at KD since they help organize the SD cleanup every year. We're hoping it will be bigger than ever this year.

And now we've got two Jasons with birthdays that week...that's gotta be worth somthing!

Best man at my buddies wedding on the 1st, I can't make it [BigCry]

Actually I was just getting ready to post the latest news [Smile]

The latest news is that there will be a Yuma Duner Diner Potluck to coincide with the First annual south dunes gathering on Friday February 28th at Gordon's well. I'm heading out this weekend to scout a good camp spot and to talk to the owners of Pair-A-Dice. I'm hoping they'll let us post the final location at their store so once we show up on the 28th and make camp it will be easy to find.

The clean-up is still on and so is the gathering. Sounds like it's going to be a VERY good time this year with lots of people!
MPR
Jason Im planning on being their and finally meeting the group from yuma. What time and where is the cleanup starting. I lucked out and got that weekend off so I will be taking the family out for the cleanup.
jhitesma
I'm still waiting on details for the cleanup but it's probably 9AM or so Saturday. The usually have a trailer at Buttercup and a table at PAD. The prize drawings and food are at PAD around 3PM and at the end the ASA will be drawing a winner of the quad giveaway.
jhitesma
Correction on the times for the cleanup.

It starts at 7AM California time and the giveaways start at noon.
treshombre
Planning on being there. icon_biggrin.gif...any excuse we'll do...gone only a day and already home sick :.(. ...Très Chic
jhitesma
I'm heading out tomorrow to try and scope some camping spaces - but probably won't be able to post an "official" location until wednesday when the first early birds get out there and phone in the coords to me.

Besides I haven't gotten to dune Gordon's in almost two years due to buggy issues. So I've got to go make sure I can still find the fun lines I've been promising everyone

Finally got the loaner VW motor to stop leaking I think so I should actually be able to go for more than 10 minutes without having to stop and dump a few more quarts of oil in for once icon_smile.gif
