I have this cool looking buggy and I have some knowledge about the rail but I want to know If you can tell me about it, I know alot about everything except the frame. Any help on who made the frame????? I know it's not home made the welds are extremely nice and there aren't any grind marks and the paint is really nice, but I could be wrong. Anyway I want to kino what kind of travel can you get from kingpin front suspension? and what size of VW motor is capable of getting the front tires of the ground?

Looks to me to be a Chenowth 4lwd.

Yeah, it definitely looks like an older Chenowyth. You'll have to lighten up the front end and get a decent trans, like an 091 at least, to get any kind of usable torque to the ground. The bigger the motor, the better. Stroker for sure, then just see what your wallet tells you.

Looks to be a swing axle rear so without considerable mods to the frame, an 091 is out. A stout swinger trans isnt cheap but should get the job done just fine with reasonable power.
Looks also to be a Warrior type beam in the front, with proper arms and shocks you can easily get 12+ inches of good useable travel. The challenge will be the rear, you are limited by the swing axle.
Either way, welcome to the sickness...... hide your savings.

What ^^^^ said about the front end.
My old car was the same frame with the seats moved back to where the shifter was at arms length.
Engine was a 2276 w/duel 48mm Del Lorto(sp) and low rpm cam (it would only spin 65-7000 rpm) don't recall getting it over 5500rpm to do what I wanted it to do. The trans was built swing axle, by Mike at ITS (no longer in business) but Pat, (Mike's partner) is now at McDowell Performance.
A some pic's of what it was able to do.

So If i get a motor swap to 2276 w/duel 48mm Del Lorto that would get it up and going??? Also would I have to beef up the transmission or atleast the gears???? What is the next size up from the Type III 1600cc VW motor, That would be able to get the tires off the ground???? Does that buggy look like it would do fine out in glamis or buttercup, what can I do to get it Ready?????
