Ok so I've been seeing tons of sweet rails all over the place. Currently only have a quad but eventually would like a rail. So I find myself noticing more and more different types. Why don't they say on the side or front or somewhere what type it is or who the builder is? Is this just something you guys know when you see one...oh there goes a so and so (insert name here) type of rail?
Thanks.

I think with the money people spend they want a custom car and not a name on it. That's why alot of people spend $3000 plus on a killer paint job.
LovesDunes
After you have been looking at them for so long you can tell who is who. There are a few that really stand out. Funco probably th emosy noticable. BuckShot, RacerX, Xtreme, Extreme they all have there own look. It's not the easiest thing to come up with something new that doesn't look stupid.
KingGlamis
A few rail builders put their company name on the car somewhere. But most are small enough that you would have to walk up to the buggy while it is stopped to be able to read it.

I'm not really sure why more companies don't do it... seems like it would be free advertising.
BeachHead
I'm the type that will take off the brand names when I "personalize" a car. Something subtle, and in good taste, I can accept, but mostly, I enjoy trying to figure out which car it is.

why should anybody be forced to advertise for a company? when you buy a truck whats the first thing that comes off?? the logos usualy to clean it up..not because your not proud of your new Chevy or Ford but because you just gave them $35,000 so that you could drive around with their name on your truck? id leave my logos on if i found that some big wig at GM were driving around with my name on his truck

It's always a challenge making yourself stand out in a crowd.
The Big5 has always done that for us.

The hustler on the other hand has been a little more difficult.
Internally we have been known to call it LEBEC LIke Every body elses car.

We try to drop subtle little stuff on the car with the "F" insignia

Ideally ,if we have done our job a customer is proud to be flying the 'F"

That's pretty funny.

But that is one of the cool things about your Big 5. You can see it from a mile away and know instantly what it is.

well, not everyone wants to give away their cars capability from a mile away..icon_wink.gif

I like the subtle f's in a few places on the funco. Just like on my hotrods, I'll incorporate a few bowties, but not so many as to make it "gaudy" like some like.

Thats exactly why I dont do it. On my chassis, there is a "brand" name on the front, not from Alan, but from the company that built the chasis. I all ready have plans to cover that up. It's not a matter of being "proud" to fly the company name, its a case of, I spent top dollar to buy the car, whay should you get free advertising from me? You give me a deal on the car, I'll be happy to show your name. It was business for you when I paid thousands of $$, it's business for me to fly your name.

I do the same with shirts and hats. I will not pay $10.00 for a hat or shirt that advertises a company. It's a $2.00 peice of clothing, and you want to charge me $2.00 plus another $10.00-$20.00 because you put your name on it??? Your nucking futs...

In this case , it's a good thing.

But that was the most notable comments about Edsel and Studebaker too!
And an Aztek!

I do think it gives away the cars capability. The driver is another story!
How many new Vettes are driven around by accountants and lawyers that really can't drive ! More car than driver in most cases.

I guess I see the points why you guys don't like the branding. I'm just surprised more people don't feel the other way.

For example, you don't often see guys peel the badge off the hood of a Ferrari.
HiGhRoLLiNoN40z
thats a very interesting point. It has always killed me when you see people leave on the dealer plate frames??? they are so ugly and why the hell would you advertise for them, they just ripped you off! JMHO
gone
Well I didnt peel the Ford logo off my truck either. But, the lic plate frame...gone, the sticker on the window that shows the dealers name...gone.

In the case of my truck, the emblems are not a big deal and I would rather not risk scratching the paint blaa blaa blaa. Accualy I did remove the grill emblem

But when the dealer chooses to put their logo and crap on my new truck...I have seen some dealers that put a metal plate with their name on the trunk of a new car. I wouldnt buy that car.
Heck, I had a bed liner sprayed in the bed of my truck, the first thing I did was remove their emblem.

Advertising cost money...pay up.

BTW, King, in my opinion, with cars and trucks, I dont think a little emblem will really make a difference. If I have a Ford Superduty, nobody will walk up to it in a parking lot wondering what it is, same with a ferarri...

The idea of the logo/emblem is to answer the question, "what is that?"

With street cars, people allready know what it is...where you got it does come in to play however...

I agree with you here Doug. I think that a lot of people are proud to "Badge" what they have. Whether it's clothing, car, etc... I understand that a lot of people say they don't care about that kind of stuff, and that's fine.

However, most consumers feel connected with the product and in some cases feel that owning those products carry some type of stature or associated quality. You're Ferrari example is perfect case in point. I have never seen someone remove a Ferrari badge off a car eiher. In fact quite the oppposite. They love the merchandise, clothing, banners, anything that has Ferrari on it. It's "Their" brand. they feel a gratification about being associated with a Ferrari.

I have on the other hand seen people remove the badges off of their Hyundai's. Perhaps for opposite reasons above.
TroyB
I think it boils down to personallity. Are you more into looks or how proud you are. For me its looks, not really out to impress some one I will never know. with a label. For example, IMHO I own one of the best trailers on the road. The first thing I did was remove the Sport Trailer logo off of the rear door. I am very happy with my trailer, I just didnt like the looks of their logo. The Got Sand? sticker looks much better thumb.gif
HoosierDaddy
TFBB Welds their name to it. It is hard to see but it is the plate with their logo at the top of the cage by the roof.
Here is mine and BTW it is for sale!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Desertdogs
uh...dude, I'd buy it, but someone has got their logo on it and I can't stand that shiat!!! laughing.gif joking ya dude

I agree with all...yank the dealers' name right off the bat...eff em, though I would like to believe I've been doingbeter since going into the fleet buying program.

It does boil down to egos, advertising and a combination of the two.

Think about it...if you really like the car, had a good rep with the builder, maybe you wouldn't mind so much if there was a logo on it?

If ya didn't enjoy your build, didn't get along with the builder, or your wife keeps nagging ya with "You spent that much Frickin &(&)*^(%&% Dollars on that %#)#& piece of shiat!?!?!"................ya might not want that log (or your name) on it....

Matter of principles, which, like opinions, vary in every case.

I laughed hard on this one!

Not because I don't agree, I actually feel very much the same way.

Thisis so funny to me because I am an American living in Russia. Here things are actually changing, but basicly the EXACT OPPOSITE of what you describe is the norm. People love to wear their brands, and up until recently, would keep some of the sales tags on their clothes and wear them proudly (until the first washing, I guess) One of the most absurd things I have seen.

When it comes to brand names, many car companies are starting to get what I would call the American mentality of branding. More subtle name badges that say their name, but investment in style and marketing of that style to REPRESENT their brand name. I think this is a good thing.

The earlier Ferrari comment is a good case in point. Not many goddy F-e-r-r-a-r-i lables to peel/pry off. They just don't need them.
Ferrari does not suffer from the dreaded LEBEC syndrome
Xtreme Motorsports
I'm not a big fan of welding out logo or putting a bunch of decals all of an expensive car but we do machine our logos in the top of our rack & pinion, top of our billet steering shaft carrier, and our billet caps for our hubs. That way it's still subtle but it's also there.

In reality once we're registered with the state, my understanding is that by law they will require "a manufactures identifying mark that's readily visible."

I've got an inquiry in to find out what that means.

good point Josh icon_wink.gif
"Proud" goes also the other way: i hand fit and hand build each of our cars ...im proud of my craftsmanship... i like to top it of with a hand made V8 (i spend about 3-4 h on that little detail wacko.gif )
i agree: no stickers, no phone #`s...just a little detail to show off my pride icon_biggrin.gif
(IMHO we dont need to label it anyway: there is nothing out there that has the same look or correct engine placement tongue.gif laughing.gif laughing.gif )
DUNE
I think most manufactures do ingrave there names on the top of the rack & pinion at least the ones I've seen.
BeachHead
spooner....if I were interested in buying a car from you, one of the first questions I'd ask would be whether you would delete the name plate. While I might still keep it, I would want it to be my decision.

As an example, I thought I wanted the "f" from funco in the front skid plate, which is awarded to a "turnkey" car. Then I realized that anyone can buy an already built car, so I actually take pride in the fact that I don't have that option. So, were I to buy a turnkey funco, I'm not sure if I would want the logo or not, but I'd be willing to bet it would be my option. It's really just my sense of asthetics.
journeyman
If I order a turn key V8 RAIL, can I special order it with a large "F" on the front?
LovesDunes
As a builder, or at least hopefully. I would hope our design, when finished, will be recognizable for what it is. Sure it has influences from other cars but when flying through the desert I would hope people will just know what it is.

Your right. Nobody removes a Ferrari emblem because its a status symbol.(Hey, look at me I have a Ferrari). Whether you admit it or not, the shirts most of us wear carry some sort of Status i.e. Hang Ten, Nike, Quick Silver, Alligator, OP,
K-mart, Hanes, Beefy-T, Tommy Bahama...etc.. The main status being, hey I'm not a cheap a$$. laughing.gif

First thing that comes to my mind, is Harley. Most people go out of their way to advertise to the world they own one, or at least wish they did.

When I bought my truck, I had all the 4x4 and diesel emblems taken off. Not because I don't want anyone to know what I've got, but because I tend to hang onto my stuff for quite awhile and I've noticed that no matter how well you take care of it, decals and sticker fade and peel off.

I do however, agree with putting a tastefully done (not too gawdy, or huge) builder logo on the car if I got a smokin' deal icon_biggrin.gif

Tom,

With leaving the Ford logo, and removing the dealer logo, wouldn't this be like leaving the Desert Dynamics badging, and removing the Xtreme badging? I know, I know...technicalities! icon_biggrin.gif I just wanted to point that out!!! 25bangin.gif

Yes, absolutly. the big diff is, if I remove the ford name plates, everyone still knows its a ford...and they know it from across the freeway.
Plus I dont want to hassle pulling the rear name plate off. With my luck, I'd scratch the crap out of it...

As for the leaving the "dealer" name plate. that always remains to be seen until after the project/purchase is complete.

But I had NO dealings with Desert Dynamics, so it will be gone...
Jim Frantz
Well I don't like allot of badging either but here is an example of what I do because I needed a gusset so why not put the model on it. If the customer doesn't want it all they have to do is say no thanks. But at this time I have had more customers ask me for it instead of me asking them. Except Madweazl he get's it added regardless of if he want's it or not. icon_biggrin.gif

I also give a small 1" high sticker of SandCars.net to the customer for the rear cage if they want to put it on that's great. I feel if I have done my job right in taking care of my customer that they would like to have my name on their car and be proud about it since I was proud to have them as a customer which almost all have become friends.

As far as our shirts they damn sure were'nt $2 each, I think we paid closer to $12 a shirt but I still gave them away along with our magic hats icon_biggrin.gif

I hope you dont think I was suggesting that you paid $2.00 for a shirt. I was simply comenting that often, you can get a $2.00 shirt for $20.00 just because of the name on it. And I wouldnt PAY to advertize someones company . Often at the SSSS I have been given shirts and hats, in fact I still wear my dunnebuggy.com hat. I wear it because they gave it to me, but I wouldnt have paid a dollar for it. Not because I dont like them, but because I dont pay someone so I can advertising their product.

If anyone want to give me hats and shirts, I would gladly wear them. XXXL, any color, any sleeve length, tank top, Im easy.
Can never have enough hats...

BTW, I really like the way you did that V3 on the front of that car...subtle, yet visable. Looks clean and classy...I would probably leave that on...
