Anyways i thought this would be a good topic for here... WOULD THEM THERE WHITE COATS.. get all ****y if a GUY <--- ME brought in a truck with some bins and set it up say at garbage flats for a few hours then moved to gecko for a few hours... grabbin peoples recycleables. One way to help G and help my pocket book... JUST an idea.. I recyle a ton of bottles every weekend.. LITERALLY a TON.. its alot of work but to me its worth it.. i have been doing it for the past3 going on 4 years.. i just thought maybe a recycling truck out at G would be a good thing..

You'd have to fight the trash diggers at the dumpster. Plus, no offense, but I sure as hell wouldn't spend time seperating my trash unless I was getting the cash from the recycling.

Recycling at Glamis has always been a problem.
exactly what Ben says... Who's gonna separate while at Glamis? Those that do generally take their cans home. Those that don't just wanna toss it quickly and get on the road.
The only plan I've been able to come up with would be to hand out SPECIAL bags to camps... Don't give them on the way in, rather, walk or ride camp to camp and hand them out and say thanks and that kind of stuff... and tell the camps to fill the bags with the cans and then just leave them near the road... then YOU have to go pick them all up!
Whatdaya think?

There have been occasions over my many years of riding at Glamis, we have had individuals stop by our camp and ask if they could have our aluminum cans. Some of them left trash bags for the cans. Unless someone in camp was recycling cans, we would set them out for collectors and happy to do it.

of course I should have realized that the majority of duners don't recycle--that would be too green!

Bluesky… Remember me? I ask you a few questions on another post, and you throw me a challenge. I step up to the plate, and you tuck tail and ran.
By now, you are aware that I do have a scientific background. I know with my years of experience that it takes time to study any theory before stating a conclusion. I read countless posts from many others making reference to you, using assorted names and descriptions throughout this board.
I have come to one conclusion. You are a coward, psss ant that writes stupid, ignorant statement, without the balls to step up to a challenge. I must praise the moderators of this board for not deleting everything you post. I will always take the time to listen when someone will at least attempt to learn something about a topic before making statements. You should thank God that you live in the USA. There are countries that would just eliminate you from exhistance for being so stupid!

dont stereotype the duners u *******... not everyone is what u think they are. BTW... i will have a backpack full of trashbags riding from camp to camp and im going to call the ranger station to see if i can set up an area to have all the aluminum set aside.. somewhere. maybe at cement flats on thier way out... and one at vendor flats for people leaving that direction... What do u think vor any other logical places to set up a dump site... cement flats for all the people off gecko and vedor flats for the wash people and flats people... then maybe hand the rangers some for the poeple at the pay stations... hehe
that would be one way to get them out

isbb, Wayno and I always use 2 bags out there. 1 dark for trash and the other clear for cans. If someone comes by and asks for them we let the have it, if not we take it home for the recyling pile we collect. It's a very good way to deal with it as very often when we come back from a ride the cans are gone, and we don't have to haul them home.
Bluesky, Don't you ever tire of being an a$$?

Is that a good idea or No i mean if everyone thinks it wouldnt be worth it and would rather take them home then why would i waste my precious duning time. RIGHT... But if it will have a impact on the way people dispose of thier trash then i will do it.. Im just trying to help the cause..

I think you misunderstood. We PREFER to give the cans away. We're tired when we get home and don't want to deal with it. We use clear bags to keep them separate from the trash, and if no one wants them then we take them home. I think it could be very lucrative. I meant no offense.

There's lots of ways you could do it...
You could do it "school car wash style" with a bunch of folks at the exit on Gecko and at Wash road. As the RV's head up towards the trash cans you can run up and offer to HELP them toss their trash then ask for their cans!
If you pass out bags during the weekend with a small flyer explaining the situation and letting them know that you'll be helping toss trash and collecting cans at the exit on Sunday then you'll get alot of folks seperating their cans for ya.
You have to make sure to have LOTS of help for this though.
Any method you use will, at first, not go that well, but as word gets out and people come to expect you to come by then compliance will grow.
Blue,
I don't recycle. Where's the money in it! HA!
Really, I pay EXTRA for every freaking can I buy but the nearest recycling center is 20 miles away.
CRV: Biggest rip off EVER!
I should be able to trad 6 used cans for six new cans... What do you think the checkout chick would say if I showed up with a bag of empties every time I bought a case of beer?
DOUBLE HA HA!!

Vor i have been recycling glass for the past 3 years o got me some major hookups. for that kind of deal.. NOW waht do u think... regular return on aluminum is 76cent... i get 90 cent... i was thinkin at damn near a dollar a pound i keep half for time and effor put the other half in an account and put it towards a good glamis cause when needed... Make the report public on the board.. ya know that kind of thing.. that ways hey if we need cash in a pinch to bail something out or if something broke at g and no one wants to fix it that kind fo thing or if we want to put something up... out there.. get the drift... or use it for bbq's gatherings raffles..

This Bluesky dude is ****in me off. Where do you get off talking to us like that, you spineless jelly fish. "That would be to green"....you little *****!

If I ever see some dude backpacking through the dunes I'm gonna run him the f*** over, just for you saying that little mindless comment.

I live in Phoenix, we have curbside recycling. I recycle EVERYTHING that I can. I probably recycle more than you BLUESKY....I pack out all of our recyclable smelly f'n trash everytime...so you better watch who your talking too.

Next time you wanna spout your ****...try a toilet!!!!!

We too have had, on many occasions, people ask us for out recyclables. We glady give them up. You see, we don't have curbside recycling, and there isn't a close place that pays you, so we recycle in a self serve type place that doesn't pay. If others want to do it, saves me the trip- hey and maybe I'm helping out some bums to make a few bucks.

Yes, a good place would be at Olds to set up those cardboard trash cans. Make a sign "cans only" and what the money collected would be used for, like keeping the dunes OPEN.
We recycle everything at home and in the desert. We take our cans and bottles home with us. Did I say bottles???? Yes, but they never see outside of camp. Does Corona come in cans?

Hey Blu, other than enjoying the OHV experience, (that you see as bad) I would consider myself very pro-environment. "Most" of us clean up after others and teach our children respect for the land. By the way, do you have kids??? If you do, ask them what BITE ME!!! means, they will know...

I know what bite me means. I have never heard a female use this expression.
I once worked with a cute lady who was a foul-mouthed tomboy. (we all loved it) One day she used the expression "well f*** me"
just a quick glance in her direction let her realize that some sayings are not meant to be said by women.

Have to agree with Sanduners for trash collectors at Olds. I wouldn’t care who picked it up for profit, just as long as it was recycled. Our camp always has trash cans set up to separate trash. We even go so far to have one of those big nail collecting magnet, to clean up our campfire ring.
One thing that really does surprise me, is why the assorted law enforcement officers doesn’t issue citations for littering once they see an individual or group leave trash as they drive away. Littering tickets can cost some big bucks. A few tickets here and would REALLY make many think. Sometime the only justice that works is “pocketbook justice”

I wouldn't mind donating a few trash cans for the "trash and can" cause. I'm just wondering if they would get full before someone realizes there's money in there and if they would return them after being emptied?

Yea, right!!!! When, Where and Why? And if you can come up with an answer (which none of us believe you will) how far? You're pretty good at making statements, but you haven't been able to back any of it up.
I do have a question for you, if you can let go of your tree long enough to answer.
Is it a bad thing to kill some of the 'hydrilla'(sp?) in the river? It's killing off other plants (more river weeds) but it's taking over the river banks.
Also, how can we get rid of it without endangering the wild life?
Thanks, Potty-Mouth Kerin

Hey Blue………. Making a mound in your sandbox and walking through it, DOES NOT qualify for a hike in the dunes!
OH, almost forgot…… You walk out on the sand to take pictures…….. Hope you stay well hydrated for such a strenuous hike!
