The CA Governor has sign water bills that weaken protection of endangered species habitat. "Some environmental groups reluctantly agreed not to fight the measure, accepting assurances that the state will adopt a comprehensive management plan to minimize wildlife losses and restore habitat".
(What, no lawsuits? Funds getting low? No Xmas party this year!?)
"It's a necessary evil" said Fred Cagle of the San Diego Chapter of the Sierra Club.
Kim Delfino, who represents Defenders of Wildlife (Wow,catchy name, they mean business!) said she recognized it was likely impossible to deliver water to San Diego without some harm to fully protected species and their habitat. (Good defense there Kim, tie a dead pelican around your neck and go home).
Imagine, the mighty Sierra Club slinking with it's tail between its legs. Beaten by a Democrat Governor and State Legislature! Since the environment in question is mostly water, how do you restore the damage without using water? If water is what being taken out, where is the Government getting the "restoring" water to replace the "taken" water? Out of millions of those joke cans of dehydrated water?
Preservation groups have one enemy that they can never defeat, not on any playing field and under the most favorable of circumstances. It's growth, housing, or development; choose the poison.
Endangered brown pelicans will die. I watched a flock go by while camping on the canals a few weeks ago. Pretty sight. But San Diego does have to wash the car and water the lawn. (and put in a few aprking lots. Too Bad.
The preservationists will just have to keep picking on the recreation crowd and stay away from that corner of the playground where the big bad developers hang out. My lunch money is on the builders.
lol. Later! Oh, by the way, Omnivor, your right again! Keep up the good work!
Gotta Go!
