Does anyone have a Rhino in their group? If you had a Rhino on a dune ride with buggies and quads, would a Rhino be able to keep up?
DUNE
So far I have dunned with two friends that have them and both rolled them. Not a good dunning vehicle but great around camp and good for the little stuff...
LEAD DOG
we've been talking about this for a while from what I understand they do really well!
lincster
My buddy couldn't keep up with us in the buggies, but he made it through the dunes no problem.
LEAD DOG
JUST WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO DO?

is it for the wife?

do you want it as a second toy for you?

what ya thinking? icon_uhoh.gif
DUNE
Let me clarify my last post a little. They would dune better if not trying to keep up with the buggies and quads. If you have a few in your group and they go off on there own then there shouldn't be any problems just take it easy... burnout.gif
Timmay
I've seen a few going through the dunes, they weren't trying to keep up with anyone, just doing their own thing and picking their own lines. Looked fun.

They dune!
On the bigger bowls/creasting razors, momentum and balls are your friend icon_smile.gif

Only a select few could pick that out. I think you need less balls and more well you know icon_smile.gif laughing.gif laughing.gif

My buddy has one, and it does well. It is not something you just throw your wife in, and expect her to keep up, though. It is better suited for an average quad speed ride, not a buggy ride. It will take some driving, but can do well. A good driver will not have problems keeping it wheels down, but an unexperienced driver may have difficulty.

My cousin just bought one and we took it for a quick spin around the block today. It's pretty quick and a lot of fun, but when we cornered a little to hard, we had it up on 2 wheels.....a quick countersteer and it came back down, but got a little "pucker factor" there and then we laughed! He's talking about when he gets paddles for it getting a bigger offset on the wheels to widen out the stance.

With 4 paddles and a BRP CDI, it will absolutely dune! And as tippy as it was with the stock tires on it, when I put the 10" paddles front and rear on reverse offset (dished) wheels, it wasn't tippy at all. I tried to put it on two wheels, but I couldn't.

And even with 2 fat guys and a cooler in the bed, it can keep up on a quad ride and even put air under all four tires. I'm hoping to have some pictures soon.

Now, if I had said it would go up olds with 2 fat guys and a cooler, that would have been a reference to you, but as I said it would keep up, that was about me and the brother, though I must admit our combined weight was definitely less than what was going up olds..... tongue.gif
ElCaminoManT
man, that rhino was effin sweet with the 4 wheel paddles. couldnt believe you duned that thing to olds with the buggies from gecko. and it cruised right up the hill no problemo!
Motor Monkey
Now I just have to find a way to make it go up the hill faster.......... burnout.gif

Never seen a Rhino charge the hill before. Does it struggle or keep a good pace?

It definitely slows down, though I don't know if I'd call it a struggle. Long and steep or long and soft seemed to be the only times it would really fall behind the quads. It gets to where it's really just crawling and you'd turn around on a quad before you got stuck, but with the 4X4 action, it just keeps on going.

I only got dug in twice the whole night, and both times I was able to back up, hit it a little faster and go right on up whatever was in front of it.

Yup, that is the one.
LEAD DOG
very nice 1dude.gif it was cool to watch you guy's chase the buggy's from camp!
DannyG
Nice pic. The paddles really take the utillity look right out of them. I'm fighting the urge to buy a rhino right now and that photo didn't help.
riverroyal
dannyg,,,,you need one, mines almost dune ready, just need wheel spacers,my opinion is make it as wide as posible with out to much or any tire rub on suspension compressing.,,,by the way is see you have a 05 yfz?? any shifting issues?mine never been right

Excuse my ignorance, but what is reverse offset wheels? and, are they on the rhino in that pic? What size, type, etc. wheels are we talking about?
Thanks.
Lucky
Lets just say that the wheel is reversed so you get more width from it. Instead of 2 inches till the plate it would be 3" or 4' to the plate you attach the lug nuts on.

Here's a great image for it....

Or, it's explained all on this site;

Sorry, I was skimming and only saw the first question....

The wheels on the rhino in the photo are Douglas Beadlocks that I bought from Black Rhino Performance. They are 12X7 (I think) front and rear. The reverse offset would be the same as if you took your stock wheels and put them on inside out. The paddles are 10" X 25" paddlemasters. The combo ran just under $1300 out the door from BRP.

What size and make/model paddles are those? Did you lose ground clearance going to those or were you able to find tires that kept your ground clearance up. Was talking to a guy at House today and he said for the Ranger the paddles they sell drop your ground clearance a WHOPPING 3". Seems like there has to be a better solution than just slapping quad tires on there - since these things come with 25-26" tires stock.

The wheels are 12X7 Douglas beadlocks in the reverse offset for extra width. The tires are 10X25 GBC Paddlemasters. There are almost the exact same outer diameter as the stock tires, but they are 2 inches wider in the front. I lost a little bit of ground clearance from stock because I'm running a lot less air pressure than I do with the knobbies, but nowhere near 2-3 inches less clearance. The Paddlemasters probably aren't the best paddle out there, but they are the only ones that come in that size without getting some crazy custom work done.

Good luck!
