So, it's time to adjust the ol valves on the 450 (that I borrowed, rode all season, wrecked, fixed, rode again, now I need to maintain.)

Has anyone done this before....it's a Honda.......the only color I'll ride. laughing.gif

I heard it was easy, and should be done semi-seasonally. Can anyone help a brudda out? Should I try it? Should I take it in? How much does it cost? How time consuming is it?

I am mechanically inclined.......I have two screwdrivers a cresent wrench, vice grips, and a roll of duct tape.

I believe it's the shim under bucket style of valve adjustment. Pain in the ass doing it for the first time. It can be done but you'll need a selection of shims plus the necessary tools. I've never done it, I had mine done. My YZ400f went 3 years without a valve job.

How do you know when you need a valve job? How much does it cost? I have a credit card and a bike. laughing.gif

I don't know. See, on a two-stroke, you don't need all those extra moving parts that can become out of adjustment.

I just know that it makes a lot of noise on the bottom. At idle you can hear a little clankety clank. That's all I am going off. I know these are supposed to get adjusted, but I have no idea when or how. Well, thanks for the help, I'll just take it in to have adjusted.

definitely take it in if it is making an abnormal noise. Little noises lead to big noises, usually of the KA-BOOM variety.
