John@Outfront Mtrsprts
This has been a car that iv'e wanted to build for three years now. Custom one-off frame (SU helped with the bending) SU front arms, fodrill rear arms. Frame material varys from .035 to .125 chromoly. we dry assemble car and it weighed 1040lbs we plan on slightly over 1100lbs. 119 wb. Motec mini dash will be the display. Tranny is a 2d and shifter is a custom sequential unit from GR race componets. Gas tank is 28gal one piece unit. the engine will be a highly modified four cylinder Subaru on methanol. it has 17" of travel up front with fox air shocks, rear is 16" travel with fox air shocks (that may change to coil over after first shakedown.) icon_biggrin.gif icon_biggrin.gif icon_biggrin.gif

Note: on the last pic the "Outback Mendeola Bellhousing" is shown. No adpater plate.

Even as a mid engine, I think your gonna need a wheelie bar! facelick.gif
Bouncertime
That car is going to be sweet, talk about an e-ticket ride.
Tripod
A single seater huh? Tired of hearing all those drunks at the drags asking for a ride? laughing.gif

I like the way you think.
John@Outfront Mtrsprts
Wheelie bar: I've already bought the wheel, with the car fully assembled and me sitting in the car--it's about 200lbs to lift the front end off the ground. I can lift one rear wheel off the ground an inch by myself!

"E" ticket: oh yeah to say the least. It will even run a Motec funtion called "anti-lag"
before takeoff it will open the idle control and retard timing simutaniously causing huge heat to develop in the exaust--instant spool.

Tripod: you have no idea of how many times i get asked that question, so now no one will ask. icon_biggrin.gif The seat is fixed, and the belts, hood, pedals, and steering wheel are built to fit only me. Besides, most of my kids wouldn't want to ride in this thing.
HA2
can i ride in it - now turns into: can i drive it? icon_biggrin.gif

i had to try.

GOTTA LOVE THAT COLOR. icon_biggrin.gif

Where'd you stuff the radiator John? popcorn.gif
Sandbooger
Are those single sheer mounts popcorn.gif

J/K Car looks great, can't wait to see it in action burnout.gif
John@Outfront Mtrsprts
The radiator is right behind the seat and is covered by cardboard--look close (the fan shroud/fans are removed right now).

Those are single shear on the rear shocks now because we're still designing the rear shock area and needed to get the car rolling. They will be finished with double shear

John

I was just messin about the single sheer John, Suspensions cars are proven top quality.
kcpaz
I'm sure you already thought of this, but make sure you stick your airshox out far enough when you design the rear shock mounts. That way if you do decide to use a coil-over, the coils will clear the frame...but like I said, I'm sure you already thought of that. icon_biggrin.gif
XMikeX
it looks good I really like the look of the hard gas lines instead of the steel braided I might have to do the same icon_biggrin.gif and after the shake down run your going to want to throw those air shocks away we tried forever to dial those in and with your car wieghing in at around 1200lbs makes it worse especially with no rezzies on those things they will be milkshakes in no time....can wait to see it flying down the drags headbang.gif

Very nice John.

I'm getting tired of hearing the phrase

"According to John......you don't stand a chance"

Just another reason why. icon_wink.gif

BTW what's the cost of this fancy bellhousing, can a mere mortal afford it?

kcpaz
the airshox will be fine, although you may have to run two in on each corner in the rear to get enough dampening...and run one softer than the other. It's true that you could never get away with them on a LS1 powered 5 seater car...or something heavy, but with that lightweight car, they will work fine. It is a little different as far as tuning, but it's not that big of a deal.
XMikeX
I say you go with foxs internally bypassed shocks that way you can tell people 5 seaters suck bypasses are worthless and oh yeah your car is slow heres my card icon_biggrin.gif icon_biggrin.gif icon_biggrin.gif

If building the car new and you don't own the adapter kit or tranny yet--it costs $250 more then the other pieces. If you already own the tranny and an adapter it will cost $830 and have parts left over

Yes i have thought of that thats why there is a loose 1/2" bolt holding everthing on, I did drive in a 1400 lb 4 seater car with four air shocks and was amazed at how well it handled. I've also been told that I can convert these to "coil over" airshocks. Remember that this car will see limited use.......... however i may like the "fix" more often and find myself driving this more then the 2 seater

Thanks for all the comments

SHOULD BE A CRAZY RIDE...CANT WAIT TO DRIVE IT ,AFTER ALL ITS A ONE SEATER SO YOU CANT TAKE ME FOR A RIDE headbang.gif

The scoop that's on top of your intercooler. Where can I get one??? JEG's??? Summit???
ChuckZilla
That's a sick car. Hope somebody get's video of that thing......hint hint.
John@Outfront Mtrsprts
The base scoop was designed from a scoop found in Summit. It cost like $250 but was designed to be glassed into a hood. We put fourty hours into our mold and was exclusively made for our trapazoid intercooler. We sell the scoop alone for $300 but would probably not work well with any other intercooler because of the unique shape.

The thin rear metal bracket on my intercooler will be lazer cut out of .38-.50 alum and polished.

I've never been scared of any car's power--I'm hoping this car will scare the crap out of me (the goal is around 1.5 to 1.75 lbs per horsepower) icon_biggrin.gif icon_biggrin.gif icon_biggrin.gif

Maybe that's a little too forward but, oh well 25bangin.gif icon_biggrin.gif icon_biggrin.gif icon_biggrin.gif

I know a guy with a low slung turbo VW rail that was talking all kinds of smack about how your not gonna be able to drive that car to the finish line, much less win any races. He thinks that your weight estimates are way low. Was saying something about how bad your tuning skills are and that you had better add a couple of cylinders before he sees you at the drags. He said that his rail would be IN EXCESS of the speed limit when he was through with you. ph34r.gif

I think i'll replace my rear shocks with a fixed strut, then i can claim as much travel as you blink.gif (As i remember it's only about 3" and that's probably all tire squish) Then I'll hand you dinner icon_biggrin.gif

I'm 6'0" exactly, that means people below 5'11 3/4" and above 6' 1/4" couldn't possibly fit. icon_biggrin.gif I actually have more room in this then any other buggy i've been in. One foot to the side rail on both sides. The closest bars are above my head but i set it up to were a helmet. It will have sheetmetal above my head too. I can enter through the side windows but the seat seems far away (kind of like getting into a 'vette but i also looking at entering throught the windshield and maybe having nets on the sides
