Anybody know anything about the "King Jack" that is mentioned in the August 2005 issue of Dirt Sports magazine? It looks like a great idea. King shocks website doesn't even mention it.

I saw the king jack in action at the most recent BAJA 500 they were also performing demos the idea and simplicity alone is crazy and there were about 5 racers allready use the jack and it is sweet and i have allready tried to order 3 and king said that when the proto type is completed and proven they will be for sale so until then .....

I also got to play with it at the 500. Very cool! for those that haven't seen it it is basicly a shock that works like a bumper jack. It has a lug on the top that is spun with a cordless impact gun. You insert the hook portion of the jack into a pre fabbed tube on the car. By turning the lug on top it raises and lowers the "jack" shaft.

We just installed a standard NASCAR style aluminum jack on a prerunner and that guys spent $843. When your stuck out in the desert in a racing suit trying to change a tire, $700 for a lightweight effortless jack means alot.

I'm sure the KING jack is excellent....but my $10 repainted old school bumper jack does the job...and doesn't need an impact wrench to use....I will loan you my jack when your battery goes dead...

Bilstein used to make them for older MB cars.
My Chevy truck came with a shorter, telescoping version. Quite a lot of extension on it.
I think I'd just go get one of those from a junkyard for $10.

Went up to King today to pick up some shocks and Brett showed me what you guys are talking about. There was a want for the jack and they made him one. Since the race many people have been asking so he said he's making a batch for some people. The price is up there but if you build it they will come.

Although i completely understand what your saying, you can't buy a jack even close to this one for under $500. It's lightweight and perfect for racing. Most of the sandguys won't understand because they're playing in the dunes but all of the desert guys who are competing to win are in line to get one.

Jul 16 2005, 05:53 AM
At $700 bucks I'm sure they'll sell.
Try $1200 for a Bunderson air jack!!!
I've used a many bumper jacks and with a car over 2,000 lbs. they won't last long - haven't ever used one that did not break eventually and usually, if you are lucky, after the car is jacked up and the tire is changed.
I agree with Alan. If I was only planning to be in the sand dunes or light hard pack I would not spend this kind of dough but out in the middle of Baja with a over 2500 lb. car I'm not going to want to rely on a bumper jack.
Thanks for the pick QG.. Didn't really think the car was on the jack on the startline.....

Jul 16 2005, 07:48 AM
You are right. For the dunes or just screwing around in the desert, that is alot of cash for a jack. BUT if you are racing, time is crucial. That jack is easy to use and light, even the chick pit crew could change the tire!

And that saves alot of time of the driver & co-drivers climbing in and out of the car.

being a King shock jack, does it leak oil and rattle like their bypass shocks????

I see everyone's point as for desert racing, it is easy and fast. But in the sand it is a complete waste of money.

I think it's a great thing to have in the desert and worth it's weight in gold when your racing. Although I know of another company going through the prototype stages also for a simular jack but not sure of the price yet.

The jack may look like a shock but does not work like one.. it is a screw type which is very strong.. really nothing to leak,
I can tell ya they are very strong yet very simple.
Probably become a standard on every car we build.
