My bud wants to use you guys but the high desert is a long ways from San Diego.. 12 hrs of driving brings the cost back up to the local PC shops around here?? You guys do road trips ever down this way??

Just for the record....

I would make the 12 hour round trip to have my car done by Larry. He did my last car and his work is awsome. Cant wait to get my new car to him. I just dropped it off at the aluminum shop, should be done the first week of August.(my choice due to my schedule) Shortly there after, it goes to Larry...

Actually it would be 4 3 hour trips.. Takes about 3 hrs to get to High Desert area with a trailer..

I drive from bakersfield to V & L simply because there work is awesome! I can't find another powdercoat shop within 150 miles that can do half of what larry does.

It's an hour and a half one way for me to get to Larrys shop...I consider it a worthwhile investment in time for good quality and great service. Your friend might look at it that way too.

What is it spacifically that Larry does so well? I've had good and bad powder jobs, bad ones the second stage powder peeled off, the color didn't look like the sample on another, What are some of the good quality points?

All larry does is Buggy stuff.Well mostly that is.I will tell you what he first told me.He doesn't know which cars are going to the show so all of them are done to show quality

Ok, my experience with Larry...He will mix any color you want. If you can think it, he will mix it. It ised to be, may still be, if you custom mix a color, he WONT put it on another car for one year, so you can be the only one. He takes the time to make sure its done right. Thats why most of the major builders use him. He is that damb good. Besides his great work , timely service, and all around good guy...last time I was there, I think he paid for the pizza....

Make the drive, he wont disapoint.

Hey Larry, I will hopefully be picking up my Funco in March. If I wanted some
smaller parts done maybe we could do the weekend thing. I am going to drive the
car for a while then tear down to do the frame. How does a guy look at colors
300 miles away?

My guess is that you come to Temecula to visit Raw Motorsports? Here's the conversation I had with them...

"Do you use the powdercoater next door?" (Literally, one door over, same building. I'm big into supporting local shops, if it makes sense.)
"No, we use V&L."
"Oh? Where are they?"
"They're out in Apple Valley." (or whatever Hi-Des city it is...)
"That's a long drive! There's nobody local?"
"We tried the local guys. We get better quality and better service from V&L. The job always looks professional. They'll even pickup and deliver."
"Neat."

So, while I haven't gotten to use them yet, that's their reputation in Temecula. If I ever do need some powdercoating, I'll be sure to tell them it's because of Raw.

Larry and Chelle are great people to work with and fun to hang with also.I look forward to going to his shop everytime I go

I have a cousin in San Clemente so I could hang out there while having paint work done. Also I think it would be cool to watch the process.

tigerdrylac.com This is a good starting point to figure out what color area you want to be in. We tweek it from there.

Here is a link to Du Pont's page on Chromaflare or Chromalusion color. Basically it is color shifting paint technology that would be killer for the asnd rail industry if avaliable in Powder. I have seen a few cars painted with this technology and it is super custom and quite expensive- $400-600 per gallon depending on strength is what I recall.
