This is a very interesting televised discussion regarding the endangered species act.
For our side, Jack Welch from the Blue Ribbon Coalition did the talking.
It wasn’t much of a debate, since BRC totally agreed with the other guy’s position of no ORVs outside of designated routes and both sides pushed for more Forest Service control and enforcement.
Both parties focus heavily on trails and forest riding and of course, that isn’t much of an issue at Glamis.
Even in the discussion on the endangered species act they didn’t disagree much. But the “Natural Trails” guy did mention “one area in southern California” where there have been “protections” in place for “several years” and yet the OHV use has increased in that area. This clever spin is used often… he was trying to imply that even though the Glamis riding area has gotten smaller, our sport has gotten bigger, so protection hasn’t hurt our sport at all. What he forgot to mention is that those “protections” weren’t necessary in the first place and did not come about because the Fish & Wildlife mandated them under the Endangered Species Act, they came about due to power- and money-hungry anti-access groups using the law for their own gain.
It’s still an interesting discussion.
It’s about 15 minutes long.
