North Orange County has 400 acres of open space owned by Chevron Oil. though is has been impacted by oil pumping for over 100 years, it still is a nice natural spot in OC.

Now Chevron wants to sell it to the highest bidder. Plans are in place to put in 700 homes and preserve more than half as a park.

Sierra Club supports maintaining this area as a nature preserve and not building anything.

Some GD readers ride their dirt bikes in this area and support its continued use as open space.

If the area is impacted with dirt bike trails, will it be easier to develope as houses?
Fireballsocal
Since it's private property, the land owner (Chevron), can do what they please with it. What anyone else thinks really doesn't matter. Considering half the space will be utilized as a park, I think it's a good idea. A 200 acre park in OC will be welcomed by many.

Blue I really hate myself for replying to one of your posts but I just had to point this little fact out. One of you number one statements on this board is "Buy the land and then do what you want with it." Well Chevron did buy it now let them do what they what to with it. [Roll Eyes]

I would like to know how you know that "Some GD readers ride their dirt bikes in this area and support its continued use as open space."

If anybody on this board knows anything about this area, it would be me. I have never seen a DIRTBIKE anywhere around this area!

Get the facts before you shoot off your mouth. Its amazing that you will try to fry me on this but you won't answer one simple little question. I will ask again...
WHY DIDN'T YOU SHOW UP AND HELP CLEANUP THE DUNES THAT YOU SEEM TO LOVE SO MUCH.

As to the Coyote Hills issue. There is a mountain bike trail/HIKING TRAIL/equestrian trail that goes along some of this area. I would like to make sure that this trail stays the way it is. I love riding this trail as well as many others love using this trail. I will let you in on a little secret, Bluesky. The majority of the people who show up to the meetings for this area are mountain bikers and equestrian people. NOT THE SIERRA CLUB. I also know that the most damage that is done to the sorrounding areas is done buy the equestrian people. I can also tell you that the people who use this trail the most are the ones who put together trail maintenance days and clean the area up. I have never seen anybody from the Sierra Club out there helping keep this trail clean. I have seen MTB'rs cleaning this area up as well as hikers and equestrian folk. It just goes to show that yet again its not the SO CALLED ENVIRONMENTALIST (like you call yourself) that do anything about the area. ITS THE PEOPLE WHO USE IT! I enjoy going to Glamis. I also am one of the many REAL ENVIRONMENTALISTS who was out there trying to keep clean and take care of something I love.

THATS IT????? * * * *. WHY WONT YOU ANSWER THE QUESTION???? Instead of being the problem why don't you at least help be the solution you *****. You have done nothing but prove to me that you have no legitimate answer for this thread or anything else. You could give a **** less about the actual land issues at hand. Its all about the OHV'er. Until we are not squeezing the throttle on our toys you wont be happy. Why don't you actually start doing something constructive and come out and help fix some of this land if you think its so torn up from OHV'ers. No wait.... I can see how it would be much more constructive to sit and dodge questions as to why you don't help the common cause of trying to keep these lands open for everyone to enjoy. YOUR ** *******! Downhillin1, Chill bro! Your letting the TROLL win. This is the kind of reaction Mr. Paddington is looking for! Lorne sets his booby trap and waits for a victim to entertain him. I know because I've stepped into it many times before! Look, Lorne is here for one thing, to promote his deranged, deep seeded hatred of our pastime! In his warped little mind, he can do no wrong. When you add that to his huge case of eco-elitism, look out! Also, he will not answer a question directly! He will only continue to provoke you so he can continue in his little game! BLOW HIM OFF! It won't be easy, but you'll feel a lot better NOT responding to him! [Disturbed]

One simple question, Blue Sky. Where were you 15 years ago? Were you up at Sacramento fighting to preseve the lands? Well if you were you definitely Saw me and a whole lot of off roaders staring you down. You see i have been affiliated with some of the older clubs here in california. Corva, cal 4 wheel, NOC, and Associated Blazer of California. At our hieght we were 300 trucks strong, ranging all through out california. We as a club fought long and hard against your preciouse illegaly aquired sierra club (non profit my a$$). We won some battles but lost many. One of the greatest losses was the Oceano dunes area. It was hard to fight a battle against the elite and their trendy causes, they had the money.
So in reitteration Blue Sky what have you contributed to? Or are you just a hippie with out applause?

"The greatest trick the devil ever did was to convince people he did not exist"

The greatest trick the environmentalists are currently pulling off is removing land from any kind of use. Hiding it, making it disappear, to the conscious mind, it no longer exists. Then the mischief begins.

So developers take into account that the land is being "misused" in Bluesky's mind, so they save the 400 acres by paving it over? Developers just do not think in such a complex way. The land costs X, houses can be built for Y and sold for Z. If you can reduce X and Y and/or increase Z, they will talk to you.

Your choices:

One of those nice STERILE public parks, full of exotic invasive plant life, artificially fostered by large amounts of water and chemical fertilizer, devoid of animal life that might put an unsightly hole here and there. Surrounded by 700 half million dollar cracker boxes.

400 acres behind a fence, dry and covered with wind blown trash. No animal life, they went across the road (the ones that made it across) to eat the trash and drink from the sprinklers of Orange County. Filled with exotic weeds and grasses with the million local lawns' seeding. Never intended to be visited by people ever again. Years go by and Orange County surrounds it, the dust is suspected of giving some kid leukemia, the voters condemn it ( Gawd, Mildred that place is a dump!!) and BINGO! Lots of houses with NO park this time.

A mixed use preserve for hiking, riding, biking, OHV, and/or camping. Mostly natural and very usable for all. Sure it eventually gets surrounded, but it continues to exist! Because of use.

Sweeeet analogy Omnivore, Slap sure like yo style...

In that area is the McCall(?) oil waste site. It is/was one of the largest super fund clean up sites in America. Could this be the 400 acres that is being discussed? I rember when this came to light a lot of noise then nothing in the news. Money talks bullcrap walks.
downhillin1
Unfortunatly Omnivore is correct! There was atleast 600 more acres that used to be around the sme area. And due to the same analogy as omnivore they relocated as many of the Coyotes and other animals as they could (killed some of them) and built condos, houses, a golf course, and shopping center on the area. This is the last open space of the area. Bluesky, instead of trying to make it unacessable to ANYBODY, why dont you do something constructive with your time and help make it ENJOYABLE for everyone!?!?!
Fireballsocal
It should be mentioned that BlueSky hasn't voiced his opinion on how the land should be used. He has put up some information and asked if it would be easier to develope the land if there were ATV tracks on it. I have no doubt what he would do if it were up to him but like I said, he hasn't posted his opinion.

I am not the DuneTroll, but I can tell you why.. If blue had said the same thing to you, it would have been edited as well. Its the personal attack part and the threat part. If you'd posted that ALL ECO-NUTS or ECO-Terrorists should be fed to animals then I am sure it would still be there.

That is so true. They have the money and the power, but they have no passion.

One of the funniest (and pitiful) things I've ever seen was a want ad for Sierra Club activists.

So remember that the next time you see some environmental fanatics waiving signs and shouting slogans -- they're paid to do it or else they don't show.
