Gee, the season is over half over and I haven't seen ANY hikers at Glamis or in the North Algondones Dunes Wilderness Area. Hmmmm. Where are all the Bluesky types? Maybe we should have the Wilderness area re-opened for OHVs since nobody else EVER uses it for anything.

Doug, I think they really want 3 areas. One wilderness for no use and one for hikers only. And another area where OHV once roamed.

does that prove there are none?
the land does not need to be hiked on or driven on or plowed or developed to be used. We are using the land as critical habitat for endangered rare species of plant and animal.
In some future year our population will be so crowded and footwear will have advanced so much that people will be happy to "tread lightly" on their feet in order to visit a natural area like the North dunes.
Let's not impact it now with motorized vehicles.

Advanced foot wear. Sorry Blu, if foot wear had not "advanced" enough by now, it never will. You havent and wont see hikers in the north dunes... We wont ever see you in ther dunes. Thank God!

Advanced footwear? Thats the most pathetic excuse you have come up with so far blue. Hey blue if you want to be really natural, why don't you hike it barefoot. Just like nature intended.

I guess you aren't aware of the recent "strides" made in running shoes, hiking shoes, wading shoes, rock-climbing shoes, bike-riding shoes, snowshoes etc...

My argument is not that is has to be "natural". My argument is that it has to have minimal impact on the natural land and allow native species to flourish.

ONCE roamed is exactly right.
Somewhere I have photographic proof of the impact walking humans made on a section of the dunes versus the impact a rail, a quad and a dirt bike made on the dunes. The humans ranged in size from small children to healthy adults.
After 5 days the footprints were still very evident. The motorized access tracks were gone, some disappearing after the first day.

Yep most pathetic excuse. You know the tracks from bikes leave less of a impact than someone walking. Anyone that has been to the dunes can see that. I guess your right, they have made advances in walking equipment, mines in the form of a banshee, Heres to minimum impact

There are plenty of hikers out in Glamis. Look at all those poor people that ride Yamaha's that get all the way out there, break down, and have to hike their busted a$$ all the way back to camp!

Ya, maybe they will have shoes with agresive traction, and the ability to aid the user in going long distances and crest tall hills, and cusion the landing from a leap. Oh wait, they already do, they are called OHV's!
Now if only Nike made OHV's. I want an Air Jordan 660 4 stoke!

What constitutes "native plant?" If the earth is...ok really old, and glamis was underwater 300 years ago, can plants still be considered native?

Hello BLUE SKY!! We get to the middle of the desert on our OHV's. Then we shut them off and enjoy the desert. Too bad you never have, or will.

Although I was not in the Dunes (I was south of I-8 south of Plaster City) I saw lots of "Hikers". All were carrying the water that the BLM or whoever put out and all were here ILLEGALLY. After riding in the desert for 20 years, this type of hiker is the ONLY type of hiker that I have ever seen in the open desert. And guess what, they are getting ready to close the desert south of I-8 (west of El Centro) to anything that is NOT street legal. We don't even have the PMV out there.

This obviously proves that motorized recreation has no significant impact on the dunes. CASE CLOSED

General Patton's Training Grounds, Camp Ibis, California Route 95
Camp Ibis is one of several camps used by Patton and his troops. They all lay quiet now, but during the height of World War II, the Mojave echoed with the roar of tanks and artillery. Here at the Desert Training Center, General Patton prepared his troops for battle in North African deserts.
Some 200,000 soldiers at a time trained here, and
their maneuvers have left their mark.
To protect remains and relics, the Bureau of Land Management has fenced part of the area to keep out cars.
The General Patton Museum is located close to Chiriaco Summit and Joshua Tree National Park along I-10.

Oh Vicki, your so behind in your history. Parton really didn't do anything as far as training. He only talked about it. He told people of a big enemy to be feared. People followed behind him at at every step. He was their leader, their hero. Parton got togther with the media and made big statments about other countries being stopped before they took away our freedom. And the soldiers chanted back about how smart he was and brave. He had one soldier I hear, named touchamyself Patterson. Patterson was Pattons biggest follower. He said someday I want to have a family just like you. I want my kids to grow up and have kids just like you. And later he did. He had a kid named imadick Patterson. As Imadick grew up, Touchamyself tought him the things he was tought by Parton. How to stand in front of a crowd and get them all behind you even though you have nothing to say. He tought him the ways of gaining support from people without needing to educate them of his purpose. After all thats how Gen Parton did it. Eventually Imadick Patterson found true love in a one eyed girl from a local town. She really had two eyes but Imadick was so ugly she only opened one at a time. As they grew older, around 70 or so Im told, they got pregnant and had a little boy, they think. As the little lad grew older hey tought him the ways of leading lemmings. They bought him a lemming set for x-mas. They even changed his name from whatadick to something a little more acceptable. Most people still refer to him a whatadick. But whatadick has mastered the art tought by Gen Parton back in the olden days. Ways of getting things done with no reason, ways to gain control of a country without considering the facts. Most of all, the lesson learned from Gen Parton was how to say you care about something and get people to believe you. All the while knowing in your heart of hearts, you really have another plan. The pattersons learned alot from Gen Parton. And we really should be greatful for Gen Partons envolvment in their lives.
Oops. I just reread this topic and realized your talking about General PATTON.... Nevermind.
He was atrue war hero that trained his troops in the dunes and yes, the PMV and lizard and that darn beetle still survived.
Sorry about the confusion.

From what I can gather, Patton considered most of the California desert his training ground. Considering he was tasked with going against Rommel in the Sahara desert, he really only had a small area in which to train, relative to the area in which he was tasked with having to fight.

Hey Doug, I guess you haven't heard. Danny P. Nut says they are going to wait until after Glamis season so they can bring in the millions to the area when the duners are done. That way they make monies year round. July and August is the best time for them to hike the dunes any way. It will give us some speed bumps for next season.

KingGlamis says he hasn`t seen any hikers...I haven`t either. The troll replys "does that prove there are none?" Let me say this (notice I wont ask the troll anything) If Troll & company attempt to "prove anything" or complete some sort of "study" If they do not notice, find, come across, encounter,or see what they are looking for,or attempting to study,THEY WILL ABSOLUTELY STATE THAT NONE OF SAID "STUDY OBJECT" EXISTS!!! Based on "best available science" (mine) NO HIKERS EXIST,IN THE DUNES!!! OH & we know better Mr troll,it`s not about a motor,it`s about ANY MECHANIZED vehicles, including bicycles.I`m awake now thank you,Sean.

I did see a few (4) hikers about 6 weeks ago. We were in Glamis and had just returned from a search for the Mineral Spring when we saw these guys HIKING up Hwy 78 toward the look-out. They kind of gave us some Holier than Thou looks when we made a comment about their t-shirts ( hug a gopher or some bs) then they got into their SUV (HMMMMM, Ok for them to drive) and left. Notice they were walking on the pavement and not the dunes. I wonder why they wern't using the 50 SQUARE MILES of hiking that was available to them??? :roll2: :dis:   :dozey: :whatever:
