With the sand tires on at Glamis:

So far, the motor home has been pretty good. Reasonable power, good gas mileage (6 mpg fully loaded, pulling the HEAVY stacker).

Here's the (very dirty) floatation sand tire.

user posted image

After trying a lot of different options for not getting stuck, we decided to just change out the rears when we arrive.

Changing to the floatation tires takes less than an hour.

Changing back to the highway tires takes a lot longer because of those #%!*#! Stainless steel hub caps!
GLAMISCOYOTE
I thought changing tires on a rail was a PITA. Where do you camp that you need to change tires?

rgordonfan. Mainly those are for Pismo, but we like going to Glamis when there are few people there.

When there are few (no?) people, even in the washed it gets pretty soft. The stock 19.5 tires sink like metal disks even WITHOUT the trailer.

We tried (many times) airing down, but found that it reduces reliability of the tire on the highway (read: blowouts). It also takes a lot of time.
For not much more time investment, we can change out the rears and know that we are safe.

Having the new (non-folding) jacking system and imact wrench, the whole process to change to sand tires is easy.

As I mentioned, those %#$$@ bling rings on the highway tires are the only thing that are a pain.

This our new Dolphin and new Universal trailer. bandit.gif
RideTheLightning
Yea it's a gasser. Pretty much a top gasser, but bottom line diesels are still another 30to 50k more. Had to stop the bleeding somewhere. Wanted to ride something when I got there. Plans are to pull a 22fter with the 4 quads I have and pick up a new Rhino next year. Gotta eat too though. icon_biggrin.gif
