Does anyone know?
I am using the Howe 2.5 Ram with the stock LS1 Corvette steering pump and it steers hard.
I know that Howe says to use a 1300 psi pump with the ram's, but I dont know what the stock GM pump is rated at.
I know they work good with the Charlyne units which require 1,000 psi.

I would have to be week pump then. I dont think that I could bleed it any better. Oh well, I dont know what to do. Maybe I can get someone to check the pressure for me or something?
Thanks for the reply!

I have a question to add to yours can't you get a smaller pulley for the stock pump to make it spin faster????

I think that they are about 1000 psi my howe system uses 1300psi howe pump and I was told that the stock pump woud be weak.

You know, I actually thought of doing that, but I didnt want to unless I knew that it would work. I figured that there was some reason that Howe offers different pumps with different prressures.
Turbopilot says he has the same setup and that it works great. I dont know how heavy his car is thouhg and if that would have alot to do with it. My car is way on the hefty side.

That sounds logical according to Howes info on the Howe web page. I think that I may be off 300psi

And how much $$ is Howe getting for their pumps? I was going to use my stock LS1 pump and get the Howe 2.5 ram. But if they wont work together, then I need an alternate. I guess I can price it myself, but have not got to that point yet

Funny you say that. Mine is a Corvette pump as well

Your response is the only one that is stopping me from just buying a Howe Pump and be done with it.
Mine did have some street miles on it before though. Maybe its just worn enough to not hang with the abuse I am giving it

My car is heavier than yours and I am running 35"x12.50's.
Does anyone know where I can get a gauge to put in line to check the pressure and how to hook it up?
Thanks

I guess i'll shutup and let you spend more money.LOL If i lived close by you could check out my car. the other thing you might check are the size of lines.i have steel braded 3/8 i belive.

I thought about the line size. I dont know exactly what I have. I would have to look at it. I know that they are at a minimum 3/8".
I wonder what would be worse, undersize or over size lines? Anyone know? I would think that if the line size was too large, it would reduce actual pressure at the ram????

OEM pressure relief is set to 1200 - 1300 PSI. 2002 F car LS1.
Line size won't really matter unless it's way too small. 3/8 to 1/2 is fine.

Thanks for the info. From what you are telling us, I should be ok becuase Howe requires 1300 PSI for the ram.
I am sure that I have removed all of the air from the system, so I must have other problems. Bad pump maybe, I dont know. I just had the car out last week and noticed that it is growling now at full lock which it never did before. I checked the fluid and it is full. What would you suggest I do to figure out what the problem is?
Thanks again

Is this something new or has it always done it. Growling sounds like air in the system, is the res higher than the pump?

It has always been hard to steer, but the growling is new. The res is higher than the pump.

If the pump was ever run dry it would damage it. excess clearance will aerate the fluid. Saginaw pump is used for many aftermarket p/s setups including Howe. Might just try to replace it.

Or take it apart and inspect for damage.

Also, did you use the stock pressure relief valve, spring , and fitting? An adapter that doesn't place the valve exactly as original will not give you correct pressure.

i called howe and they said that the stock pumps have enogh pres but the volume is not enough
