Full Version: What Fuel Cell Do You Use?

I am still thinking about, and acquiring, parts prior to starting my sandrail build. I have looked at a number of fuel cells on the internet and for safety reasons have decided on nothing less than a SCORE approved bladder type fuel cell from a manufacturer such as ATL or Fuel Safe (any others?). I originally wanted to locate the fuel cell under the back seat but I cannot find any stock cells that are suitable for mounting under a back seat due to the filler (not to mention passengers "bottoming" out on it). Therefore, I figure I will have to buy a stock fuel cell and design the car around it. I am curious about:
- What bladder type fuel cell do people on this board have in their fuel injected cars?
- Where and how is it mounted?
- Where have you extended the filler neck to?

Any pictures would be greatly appreciated.

rollsmile.gif mine was a custom built fuel cell with bladder and roll over valve in the neck rollsmile.gif

Mine was custom built as well, 21 gal with anti siphon vent for roll over percaution, feeder sump, and baffels. Keep in mind a low level sump will keep a positve supply of fuel when at exptreme angles, and the baffels keep the sloshing to a minimum.
Just my 2 centavos worth

On your custom built fuel cells, did you use a stock bladder from a major manufacturer or did you have a custom bladder made to fit your custom fuel cell can?

I would say in the neighborhood of $1500-$2500 depending on size, complexity and options.

Here is ours. Its a 65 gallon with all the bs and options.... Price wasnt bad; friends with the owner of Fuel Safes brother-in-law 1dude.gif Depending on who makes the tank will be your biggest price jump; fuel safe is by far the best in the business and will make anything you want. We actually had the owner over one night and he measured it up for us and everything. Turn around was great but expect to pay some coin. Check with ATL; I think they where doing custom tanks and one point. I have another source also if you are really in need of a custom tank. PM me the dimensions and if you want the check valves, rollover valves, how many vents, fuel pickup filter, where you want the pickup, an sizes etc...

This is Fuel Safes site just incase you need info http://www.fuelsafe.com

Thanks to everybody for your replies so far.

It seems like Fuel Safe and ATL don't make a tall, wide, and skinny fuel cell that would fit well right behind the back seats. I guess the sandcar market isn't big enough to make it worth their efforts? Fuel Safe has the Off Road Buggy Tunnel cell (OB125BE, OB128BE on page 17 of http://www.fuelsafe.com/pdf/Off%20Road.pdf) but I can not seem to find any information about the dimensions or pricing of these cell's (and if the Enduro cells are SCORE approved).

Is anybody aware of a SCORE approved tall, wide, and skinny fuel cell that is not custom?
