this car had a 2232 auto craft case, pauter heads, with a steel billet roller cam, custom built intake system by chassis shop, alky, EFI Motec. 30 lb of boost, made 600+ HP. weighed 1200 lbs, with a 091 bus trany built by Sammy @ Rancho and ran flawlessly for 2 seasns in a row, Rodger @ Heads up did all the re-builds bi-annually and by far the most exillerating ride I can think of.

I remember looking at my Sand Sport magazines back then thinking how big and tall those cars were. Who would of thunk? Going back further, I got a '91 or '92 VW Trends magazine with Sams(Rancho) blue Johnnys Speed and Chrome rail gracing the cover. Times sure do change, don't they?

Wow to think it was ten years sense what was then a Long Travel (only 16"), now called a mid travel. Things have come a long way. Before this I dont remember seeing coil overs on any dune buggies. We built some before this but it could have been the first production 4 seater (not sure). Very cool. Thanks for the history.

Actually the first car belonged to one of his employes. It was also a rotory(not turbo) and we all were giving "too tall" a load of )(*& becuase it was so annoyingly loud without the turbo.

Yeah, that was Mike the tug boat guy. I met him thru Frank that working at Coast Fab at the time. Mike and Frank fabricated the chassis in Mike's garage and took the frame to Larry to design the five link rear end. Frank was fabricating stainless steel headers for me where he worked at Coast Fab and told me "you have to see my buddy's car he built". At the time the car waa at Mike Porter's getting the motor done. So I went and looked at it.
It was awesome. So, Mike said if you want one we can work with Larry at S/U and probably build you a 4 seat rear engine five link.
That's how it all got started.
Don't know Mike's last name - just tug boat Mike. I have some pics of Mike's car somewhere - I will look for them and post

That was Tom Millers car. It was one of the first four seaters made and I think it was the first one that made it to Glamis. It was also a VW like bills, but bills had a big aftermarket case and tons of power..... for a VW
