I know raptors have had tranny issues during the first years. I had one dropped off that lost foward gears but still had reverse. When Not running if you place it in first gear it will not roll. Has any one else seen this on a Raptor? Thanks for your help in advance. Wrench :burn:

Maybe someone can correct me, but is this a trick question? Most any bike if you put it in first gear it will not roll................I don't understand the question I guess.

727, That was my thought exactly. When running the bike does not move when placed in any foward gear. But will move under it's own power in reverse. :?: This makes no sense. But I will tear it apart tonight and let you know what I find. Wrench :burn:

Ok, Here we go. After further investigation the tranny has some serious issues. In Neutral with the neutral light on the bikes goes in reverse. One notch up and it dies when the clutch is let out. The Reverse light does not go on at all. One notch down form neutral the clutch can be let out and the bike will idle as if in neutral. Down one more and we have reverse, but no reverse indicator. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Wrench

This might be a dumb question but have you put on a new dash??? Because if you did you might of switch the light around! Neutral with reverse maybe just a thought. When I did mine all the lights are clear had to do it in steps.

Sand Spanker, I wish it was that easy. This thing locks up the tranny and will only move in reverse and in other gears the engine kills as if it is in reverse and forward at the same time. This is the first Raptor I have had the pleasure of working on. I think my next step is to go get a service manual and tear the thing down. Thanks for the response. Are you the sand spanker that makes the t-shirts? Wrench :burn:

No I wouldn't be saw the shirts thought it was a good name is all. Sorry for your troubles. I have a 01 raptor and have had nothing but good things. The service manual is a good bet thats the 1st thing I did after I bought mine. Hope you have good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!

did the bike self destruct or did the prob just apear like after a bath maybe the reverse switch went south causeing it to think its in reverse at all times .other wise to kaboom a tranny you would have a good idea what you did to make it happen ,like shifted and it just stoped /w/ lots of grinding noise .if that didn't happen i would look at the switch .

Someone a while back was organizing a class action suit against Yamaha.

The thread eventually seemed to imply that contacting a certain person at Yamaha got them results and solved some transmission issues.

The Honda 300ex has the same problem.

I have an 02 Raptor with hundreds of hard hours with no problems.

Still, Yamaha could have handled this issue better.
