Slap has seen quite a few posts throughout the board that were of accidents and miscellaneous get-offs. Well, Slap don't know if there is another thread on the board for such things, but Slap will start one here in his Neighborhood. Post your incident here to let folks know what happened and how we can handle such incidents if they were to happen to a fellow GD.comer. You can post what you saw, what happened to a stranger, or what happened to you. Slap hates to read such things, but they are a part of Mother Glamis, just as ripping a bowl is. Slap found this one, and shall start it.

Way too dusty... it's either too windy -- or no wind & the dust has nowhere to go! Buddy in my camp shattered his left arm -- bone from shoulder to elbow in 3 places. Just a foot-and-a-half burm. Bike went one way, he went the other. Could have been worse. He was knocked out cold! Finally got his wits back Sunday am, after an evening at the Brawley Butcher (Pioneer, via ambulance). But all wrapped up for the drive home & Scripps La Jolla (real doctors!). There were at least two fatalities in Glamis -- 15 year old girl from Santee Friday night... Quad vs. 4x4 truck... truck won... and another fatality was at Pioneer while we were there Sat night... very sad & tragic...
And what was up with the traffic on the S2??? Took us 3 hours to get home to Poway!

Well, this past weekend was great for some, not so great for others...
My first time back in the dunes in close to a year and a half for all intensive purposes...
Myself, Grace, my brother and one of his friends and English Dave as some of you might know him by...
We all were doing well for not riding in quite some time... We were runnin' the poker run, which my brother took 5th in with a king high flush. Only beat out by a 4 of a kind (4's) and a couple fullhouses by some cool peeps one of which I knew....
Well, we had hit up the Brawley Slide stop first and decided to head for Olds from there... On the way up the Slide, Kevin, my brothers friend, decide to loop his bike over backwards. Freak accident that left him leaving saturday afternoon for the hospital not to return due to a torn ACL and LCL... Heal up quick Kevin...
He did finish out the poker run like that, dumb s*** kept saying "I'm alright..." even after repeated attempts to convince him to go back to camp. But, he's a grown boy. He makes his own decisions..... Now next time maybe he'll think twice when an injury occurs.
Well, by the end of saturday we were down to 3. Sunday came and we continued to ride. China was first on the list. As we were sitting there, I look to the left and watch it happen... 12 years old, quad rolled over backwards on him going up the hill. Fortunately there were many around and one RN. The kid seemed to be okay, but was complaining about back pains especially in the middle of his back. He was not there with his family but with friends of the family. The nurse recommended they call for a backboard and the family he was with didn't argue in the least. We wound up leaving before anyone arrived... So I don't know the outcome, but would really like to know if the kid is okay. I was right there helping, but left early only because there was more than enough qualified and/or responsible persons already helping. Hope the kid is alright.

My last bad get-off was two years ago in Glamis on my 250R three wheeler. There was a group of us following Chef, and the rule is that we never pass the leader, but we can do whatever we want behind him. The first person behind the leader is actually #1. My friend Rick (epo #3) and I had always ridden fairly close to each other over the years in motocross and duning. We pretty much know each others moves and are comfortable riding close to each other at a fast pace. He had a 250R quad at the time; both bikes are open wheeled. We were rounding a slope about to make a transition. I came in on the left, and he was to my right just a wheel behind. We transitioned and both pegged it hard to not lose a spot. I was determined to get in front of him, and he the same to me. We touched rear wheels, and all I remember was the ground rising up and slamming my head. It was so fast I couldn't react. It knocked the wind out of me, broke my visor on my helmet, and nearly broke my back. I couldn't breath for what seemed like a full minute. It was probably only a few seconds, but I thought I was dying. There was an incredible knot in the center of my back that felt like somebody hit me square in the back with a sledgehammer. My finger was bleeding and so was my face. I got to my knees and my breath returned. The three wheeler was 30 feet away, and Rick was under his bike. He threw his bike off and came out of it bruised and sore.
That knot in my back has never gone away, it just changes in degrees of comfort if you know what I mean. I hit so hard when my body and bike rolled over top of me it almost broke me in half.
I have gone to four wheels and nerf bars, and so has Rick. We still play very close, but we back off if it gets too crazy. That was one crash I'll never forget.
BTW, I recommend nerf bars.

A few years back my friends and I were cruisin through the dunes on our way to olds from wash 11 and as we were going from bowl to bowl we noticed a Banshee upside down at the bottom of one of the bowls. We stopped to investigate and discovered a kid under the banshee. He was conscience but in alot of pain his femor (thigh bone) was broken in two places. Luckily my dad who is a nurse was with us and knew exactly what to do. He found some sticks and took some bungees off of coolers and made a make shift splint. It turned out to be this kids nineth b-day I felt so bad for him. His dad was back at camp (drunk) and had no idea that his son was even gone. The kid ended up being air lifted to a hostpital in San Diego and his cousin came by the next day to tell us thanks and to let us know he was ok.

There was the time riding YZ250Slob's YZ that I got a little c0cky riding 2 wheels for the first time and looped it hitting a massive jump (6"). My knee is still hurting from that one.
The good one was one of the first GD rides I went on, we took a big pack on a 'fast guy' ride out to Olds, and then a few of us decided to go faster and broke off the front of the pack to meet up with them at China. I was following Elsensei, Crowbar, and I forget who else, but we were straight rippin', hitting every kicker in sight.
Well I hit one of them a little lopsided and came down on just my rear left wheel first. The jolt of the right wheel hitting knocked my right foot off the peg and sucked my boot under the tire. I fought for dear life to hang on, I had absolutely zero desire to get ran over by my own bike in 4th pinned. So all I could do was hang on and drag until the bike slowed to the point where I could pull my foot back out. Derek passed me around this time, I gave the thumbs-up and waved him on, then took off at the back of the pack, still hauling the mail.
About then I felt it: massive swelling in my leg. Oh chit oh chit oh chit, I broke my effing leg! I spazzed on that for a while, but was thinking the trauma shock was what was allowing me to still ride, and I didn't want to get ditched on the wrong side of the dunes (I was completely oblivious to what was over by the washes at this point). We eventually stopped for water, and I proceeded to empty about 5 pounds of sand out of my boot (woohoo, no break!). The best part is I lost all the skin on the back of my knee, so I couldn't really bend it for a few weeks without gushing blood everywhere. That sucked.

A few years back we had some wind blowing and decided to take a ride anyway. It was high noon and as we hit the big bowls on the back side of comp I was having a hard time reading the dunes due to whiteout conditions and could'nt tell if I was going up a hill or down. So I stopped and told the wife that this sucks and that we need to head for sand highway cause this is dangerous. So we drop into comp and head for sand highway to go the easy way to olds hill.
As our group pulls out of comp bowl onto the sand highway my boys hang to the left side of my rail and my wife trying to stay out of our dust hangs to the right side.
Well if you hang to far to the right there are some good drop off's in that area. Due to the wind blowing so hard a sheet of sand was blowing over the top of a 8 /10 ft drop that made it look like a roller. The wife grabs some throttle and fly's off this drop before she knew what hit her. She was on a 200x ATC and this thing tore her up good.
She ended up getting strapped to a backboard and riding in the back of a ranger truck up the berm to the road and then ambulance ride the Brawley for a 3 day stay.
She ended up breaking her scapula and some ribs, fractured her pelvise in front and back and a blood clot in her leg. That was in 2001. Earlier this year we find out she has a herniated disk in her neck and had to have disk 5 and 6 fused along with about a year of ongoing psyical therapy.
Sorry about the long read but its hard to paint the picture of what happened in a short form.
Be carefull when the wind is blowing. And forget it at high noon.
Stay safe

SKILL BABY.. actually the luck of the gods Id have to say..
On another note - not all of the above is true. Ive had my fair share of get offs or crashes.. Just not as many people to witness.
Sunday morning first thing. Tron, WildBill, and I went on a great ride. We left feeling frisky but returned limping the bikes and the bodys.. It was early morning, the sand was sweet and we took turns leading. We hung out between China wall and behind it. When it was my turn to lead - The music flowed and the lines danced. Somehow managed to get in to one of the best grooves Ive ever been in. Connected 4 bowls where it was Bowl, transition, turn, jump, bowl and so on.. This just never seemed to end and the speeds increased.
After the 4th one, I hit the transition hard, made the left and saw what looked like a bitchen jump in to the 5th bowl. Hit it hard and set up for some air time when I saw not 1 but 2 witch eyes.. All on the throttle, I cased the far side of witch eye #1 and bounced in to the air. I actually thought for a second I was gonna make it when the back of the bike started to rise above my head as I headed for witcheye #2. Back on the throttle for all she was worth.
Hit the bank on the other side of witcheye #2 head on. From there is was assholes and elbows the whole way down. Rang my bell a good one. All was ok cept for some minor damage.
By this time Trons bike lost its rear brakes and we decided it was time to call it a ride.
The whole time on the way back I kept thinking to myself.
#1 - your effin lucky.
#2 - Like the ocean and her waves, Mother Glamis commands respect at all times or your gonna get bit.

RIGHT OUT OF SOCKET, TEARRING MY MUSCLES RIGHT OF THE BONE!
I DID HOWEVER STAY UP RIGHT FOR THE LANDING AND "BULL DOGGED"
THE BIKE TO A STOP!
TWO SURGERYS LATER, A COUPLE SCREWS AND A WIRE THAT HOLDS MY

I DIDNT PRE-RUN A JUMP AT DUMONT ONE MORNING (WAS JUMPING IT THE DAY BEFORE) AND OVERSHOT IT. I LANDED FLAT AND GOT BUCKED OVER. RESULT= SHATTERED CLAVICLE REQUIRING BONE GRAFT FROM MY HIP, AND ABOUT 10 SCREWS. COULD HAVE BEEN WORSE, I WAS LUCKY. BY THE WAY, EFF BARSTOW HOSP, THEY SENT ME HOME AND SAID I WAS FINE. THE NEXT DAY WENT TO SEE AN ORTHOPEDIST AND HE SET ME UP FOR SURGERY ASAP, IF IT WASNT FOR THAT, I WOULD HAVE NEVER HEALED.
ALSO.....HIT A BUMP WIDE OPEN ON A BANSHEE ONE TIME, SAME STORY, SHOT OVER BARS AND BROKE MY CLAVICLE. WHEN THAT HAPPENED I WAS 17, SO SOMEONE HAD TO CARRY MY SCHOOL BOOKS FOR ME.

My accident didn't happen at Glamis but it has to do with Glamis.
It was summer of 1990 and I got a sweet @ss 1985 ATC 250R with a pipe, reeds and slight port job. Anyway some friends and I went riding in the wash out in Rubidoah and were having a great time riding all day well it was the last ride back to where we were camped so to speak and a friends come riding passed me saying lets race and I was on that like fly's on s***. So I'm catching up to him and I was in 5Th gear about to shift into sixth when the rear skid plate bolts came out of the front and the rears were loose so the skid plate acted like a catapult and launched me.
A few people said I flew about 30 to 50 feet through the air and landed on the upper left part of my head. I got up and started to walk but all I could see was black and white dots like when the TV picture goes out.
I then fell to the ground face first and the next thing I know 2 of my friends are walking me back to camp, then when I could see again I was laying under the bridge where our stuff was and people asking what happened and all I was asking is how is my bike and helmet. I asked that over and over.
The EMT's showed up and took me to Loma Linda where I was rushed into the ER with broken 7Th vertebra in my neck, broken collar bone in 3 places, puncutured left ear drum, 2 broken ribs on left side and a punctured left lung.
They cut a hole in my side for the chest tube and had to do it 2 other times as it didn't want to stay inflated. They put a catheter in and processed to get it caught on one of the doctors pagers and pulled it back out then inserted it again.
I spend about 4 weeks there and had to wear a collar for 6 months after that.
I was really close to death or being in a wheelchair for the rest of my life. I feel pain in my neck just about every day but it's worth it to be able to still ride.
What does this have to do with Glamis you may ask..I was suppose to go to Glamis for the first time ever the week after this happened and didn't get to make it.
The Arai helmet saved my life and that's why when I ride a bike or drive a cart I only wear an Arai helmet.

I guess I'm the luckiest man alive.
My buddy and I were coming back from Olds hauling and I mean hauling. We came out of the dunes by pad 3 and nailed it toward Roadrunner. It was a uncrowded weekend and I was paying attention. It goes like this, fifth gear pinned on my old Predator, which by the way is effen fast. Going up a slight rise I run straight into three rails racing the other way. The lead rail and I met head on both Maching. I swerved to the right, and he tried to go the other way, but turned to hard and lost it. He spun the rear end right into me. I had about a half a second to decide to bail off my quad going 70+ or die. Right before the impact I jumped. I ended up jumping over his roof and rolling out of it after getting about 40 feet. When the quad and rail hit, he almost flipped , my axle, hub, and wheel just shattered. It sounded like a train crash. My tire went about 6o feet in the air. Everybody thought I was dead, they saw the two hit and all the parts flying through the air. My buddy rides up and runs over to me and starts patting me down for injuries, telling me to sit down, He is a Glamis rider for twenty years and it shook him up so bad he was crying. I walked away without a scratch, with a full understanding how close I came to being dead.. If I wouldn't have cleared his roof I would be gone. I seriously considered ending my riding career, but in the end I need it in my life.
Funny thing about this crash, I never had time to be scared. It happened so fast. I have been doing crazy shiet for twenty years, thought I was done more than once. This was close.

only high speed crash ive had was riding a bowl and didnt see two deep sandrail tracs going 5th gear pinned, slightly windy. hit the tracs which caused a wheelie and I ran into the top lip of the next bowl. threw me off. (had kill switch attached to me). knocked the wind out of me. as I tumbled thinking o god i had to have broken something, finally sat up with no pain laughing. I was so lucky. here is a pic my sister caught in motion.... See me tumbling! you will have to save the picture to zoom in on it. sorry dont have greatest programs on my computer.

As a kid we camped at gecko and I was usually first up in the morning. One of these morning against explicit instructions from my dad I cruised over to oceanside bowl. Here I am wot around when my chain snaps.I roll down to the bottom and sit there for about an hour when I see my lil sister come over the hill. She rides down looks at me and starts dying with laughter ,as she rides around me in circles chanting "ooooooo busted"!She turns tail and says "dads been looking for you, hes maaaad".She leaves to go get him. Then like a bad dream I hear the sound of a vw ,and over the hill comes dad.He doesnt speak ,wont even look at me,looks at the bike grabs a strap tying it to the buggy and throws it other end around the bars on my bike.I know this isnt the ideal location to attach it but I am smart enuff to shut it.I barely get on my bike before my dad takes off.All is going well until we reach the top. With a glance back and I swear a smile he goes over the top cuts to the left and pegs it!In horror I look on as the rope cuts through the razorback like butter, then i hit.Bike and boy blasts through the dune in a shower of sand.Unfortunately since it was an atc ,when the front tire hit ,I endowed and was slingshotted helmet first right through.Even worse ,the bike in what I can assume only as revenge came right behind me ,rolling over me further pushing my already buried face in the sand. When I was done gasping for breath and spitting sand I hear both my dad and sis laughing hysterically.Dad rights my bike slaps my back and says,"I said DONT go too far!"

About 6-12 years ago, I raced many District 37 Gran-Prix's
Sunrise Cycle Park in Adelanto.... It was my first expert class entry. I never got a chance to ride the track before the race. I get the hole shot and after the 2nd turn, there is a nice 10' double. Without thinking twice I cleared the double easily. On the 3rd lap around and on same double, I got to much traction on left rear on take-off. So I'm way crooked in mid air. Upon landing, the bike corrects hard and launches me to the ground. Broken arm 2 weeks before a planned softball tournament in Hawaii. Bummer
Glen Helen MX in Devore. ... Huge Gran Prix with like 25 bikes per row start with 7 or 8 rows. I'm running expert and got a first row start. I get the holeshot again and we eventually make our way to the Sheriifs drivers training track before coming back into the MX track. Corey Ellis & Nic Granlund behind me.. we are the asphalt section of the track and they flooded the track for about 30'. Lean back and pin it. bad idea... half way through right front tire digs in and slams me to the pavement. broken colar bone.
Both wrecks occurred cuz I never had a chance to pre-run the track. Big mistake to go all out on first lap.

one weekend last year (i dont remember which weekend it was) we had just made a run from roadrunner down to the end of gecko so my girlfriends uncle could buy a pass and on the way back he and i decided to have little race. it wasnt a crowded weekend, and we were far enough away from the road (or so i thought) so we just opened it up. he rides a stock raptor 660, so as i click into 6th im pulling away from him and suddenly i see a kiddy track dead ahead. from here everything is in slow motion, all i can think of is how can i possibly get around it? and i am going to end up paralyzed like one of the people i keep reading about on the internet. luckily, i was on the back side of the track so i hit the rounded side of the burm, leaned back as far as i could and held on. the bike bucked hard and as the left front tire hit the ground it pitched me straight over the bars. midway over the front end all i could think about was trying to roll into it so i tucked my shoulder and rolled into the ground. when youre rolling across the ground at 50mph all you can see is a blur of sand and sky. when i stopped rolling i stood up, checked myself to see if i was hurt and managed to walk away perfectly fine. buying a chest protector is probably the best decision i have ever made, it allowed me to walk away from a crash that could have potentially left me in a wheelchair for the rest of my life.
moral of the story, NEVER race along the side of gecko, and wear a chest protector.
that, and most of you know my story from the fast guy ride a couple years ago....

Last year in Jan,on a guy's trip on our morning warm-up ride stopped at Olds, watched a little action.Picked up some dirt bags trash that they left for me.We had left 2 guys back at camp,so on our way back to get them, just over the top of Olds,I hit a jump and as I was landing my right foot slipped off the peg and landed in front of the rear tire, instantly shattering my Fibia and Tibia and twisting my foot around. On top of that my Fibia punched out of the front of my leg causing a external(compund)fracture. The pain can not be described, wished I would have just passed out instead of fighting the pain.Thank god for the great group of friends with me!I could not ride out,so we brought a truck out to get me.
After getting to Brawley Memorial and 2 surgery's later,I was able to go home after 4 days of hospital.6 monthes of Physical Therapy i was able to somewhat walk again
Just could not have done it without my wife and solid friends.Just wished we would have made a splint to support my leg rather than having it fumble around. And a good set of heel-guards or nerf bars.30 years of riding out there and not a scratch, stitch,or anything, then bang that all changes. But I do have to say my daughter was 18 monthes old when this happened, and I got to be with her everyday, all day for those 6+monthes was awesome.Next time I'll try and do a collarbone instead!

One of our group guys was playing aroung during the sunset watch and decided to jump a few bowls. Everything looked good and he is very talented by the way. But for some reason he switched jumps and tried another bowl. Well, it was perfect going over the jump but he forgot that the take off was right next to a witches eye. So coming back over the dune he decided to bunny hop the lip of the bowl and when he did, he bunny hopped right into the witches eye and lawn darted his head int oit with the bike coming over right on top of him. Turns out he broke his back. Six vertebraes compression fractured. We're glad he could walk after the wreck. Please look around your surroundings if you wish to play in Mother G! Peace
Here he is a couple years a go. Get well soon good buddy! Peace

Mine was about a year ago. Camped of geko pad two to be exact. Saturday morning unstraped my banshee fired it up and took it for a quick putt. Had just had the carbs tuned up and was running great. What's sad is I never really left camp, in front of our camp were some really small dunes. Like a dumb (_|_) I went sraight up a small dune pinned with out knowing what was on the other side. It was only a small drop about five to six feet, but it was enough to ruin my weekend. I ate crap my quad landed on me and something nailed my hard in the kidney. Thank God nothing was broken but my pride, and some serious pain for a couple weeks. Lesson learned.

Slap has seen quite a few posts throughout the board that were of accidents and miscellaneous get-offs.
