97 banshee, just rebuilt top & bottom
I was racin' at olds last saturday kickin some good arse and my clutch stopped working. I got no clutch movement at all. My cable is new and perfectly fine. I took the cable off and checked it. I know alittle about the bikes and re-did my own top end before. Is this a job for a shop or can a semi mechanical person get in there and replace/repair a clutch? :?:

It not that hard you just have to be patient and as you take it apart look at where everything is and seperate it in piles and mark it so you can remember if it takes a while to get the parts if needed. I have done a few and all 2 strokes are pretty much the same. One question does your bike go through all the gears manually or is it stuck in one position? The more you explain the easier it is to diagnose.

REPLACING THE CLUTCH IS EASY.YOU CAN DO IT YOURSELF. BUT WHEN YOU REPLACE THE FIBERS GO WITH THE FZR FIBERS. IT'S A LITTLE BETTER. :burn: :burn:

YOU CAN ALSO USE THE FZR 600 SPRINGS BUT YOU CLUTCH WILL BE A LITTLE HARDER TO PULL BUT WILL LAST LONGER ESPECIALLY IF YOU HILL SHOOT MORE THAN DUNE.

When you say the clutch stopped working. What do you mean? If you can still pull in the clutch lever and there is no tension the adjustment screw might have come loose.

i can still go thru all the gears just with no clutch. the bike runs awesome. i rode it all the way back to camp in 3th gear from olds. even bit the dust once!.....oops....at first the clutch spring was stuck. and then we took a screwdriver and a hammer to it and it came loose. then put the cable back on and there is no tension at all. even with the screw on the perch all the way out. i can move the spring with my finger. its way too loose.

Drain the oil and pull the side cover. First thing to check is the screw and lock nut in the center of the clutch, try to adjust the screw in this should create tension if not take the six bolts holding the springs in and pull the pressure plate off, Down in the center of the shaft should be a large steel ball and a long rod ( may need a magnet to pull these out ) Check to see if the rod is worn on either end or if the rod is bent. The only other thing I can think of causing this is if any of the posts are broken off of the pressure plate, You will know this when you take out the six bolts.
Good Luck
