I run a K&N in my Raptor and YFZ, I also have one in my truck and buggy.

The only way I'll run a K&N is if it has an Outerwears on it and it must clamp onto the airbox and get a good seal. Otherwise, UNI foam filter gets my vote.

I forgot to add, I do have outerwears on everything except the truck, that is my daily driver.

I have heard they let a lot of sand through unless you have Outerwears and clean them every other ride. I watched my buddy clean his on his truck, and he was getting all kinds of sand and what-not out by spraying with an air hose.

I use uni dual foam for my atc and airbox with holes added in the lid.I really aint a believer in the k&n style seen too many let dirt through.
Besides you get the k&n for more flow but then restrict it by adding outerwears?

I pass on the K&N for the above reasons.
I have used oiled foam filters on all my bikes with excellent results. They flow enough air to make alot of horsepower, probobly more than you'll ever get out of that 450.

I change my uni every 2 years still seem fine then.
My luck with k&ns has been bad others i know love them and swear by them.Guess it all depends on who you talk to.
Ever see what happens when a k&n lets sand thru on a banshee my brtoher had them on 2 of his both got sand in the carbs throttle gets stuck. But he still believes in them.

i've heard alot of people say that, never had that happen. i run them on every vehicle i own. the only reason i run an outer wear is to reduce the cleaning intervals. the only thing i can come up with is that people don't oil the fliter correctly or seat it right. i honestly have never found dirt or sand in any of my intake tracts. if i did i would switch immediately, cause i have nothing against foams.

Simple question. If K&N, fabric filters were that much better than foam, don't you think that the Big 3 would use them on their motors? You see that type of filter on equipment that is not run in dirty dusty areas. I don't think it will kill your motor any more than an improperly used foam filter will, but why spend the extra cash. You can get two or even three foam filters for one K&N.

K&N with outerware all the way. Cleaning and oiling a foam filter absolutely blows ass. Messy, dirty, and slimmy pain in the butt. My friend had them on his banshee. He runs K&N now and is much happier. OEM runs foam cause they are cheaper. A properly oiled and installed K&N doesn't let in any more dirt than a oiled foam filter. HP difference isn't enough to matter. I just don't like the mess in cleaning a foam filter and reoiling it to make it work right. K&N's take 10 minutes to clean and oil. No mess or fuss putting them back on either.

K&N all the way...the secret is in proper installation and a heavy oiling....I slop oil i mine..let it sit, then air gun it before re-install..use outewears..and have never had any dirt go through one....foams..on the other hand...never get the dirt out all the way...

well from my experience foam does trap sand better cuz of the way it soaks up the damn oil u have to put on it but what flows better K&N or UNI?

Always ran K&N's with outerware. Clean after every other trip depending on how dusty it was. Used a straight filter and no airbox on my last 4 quads and never found any trace of dust on the inside.

They should be ok as long as you use outerwares. Just clean them everyother trip like everyone else has said.
