It's Time To End The Endangered Species Act

While doing research for articles about the wolf and the problems they cause, I got more information than I needed. I have some observations about this and other things going on in and around America that just need to be said.

I fail to understand why the Congress and State Legislators spend all the time they do on stupid, frivolous legislation when they should be worried about the economy and budgets. They spend more time and effort building road blocks to doing any business or industry and preventing people from using their own land than they do managing what they are elected for. The government was never meant to be the largest road black to the people, it was to help us. Boy, has that changed. If you don't believe it just look at Oregon. It's dying because of government interference. The people should be so mad and upset that they march on the capitals and demand that they take care of that business first and forget all this other foolish stuff. Then we should insist that they do away with about everything else they have passed into law back to the civil war and start over. I think it is time for a review instead of passing more laws. We should demand that review and make it a law that they can't pass a new law until this happens.

Many laws and acts, like the Endangered Species Act (ESA), started out with good intentions but they have turned into disasters and destroyed industries and displaced families. You can never tell what will happen down the road with these laws by the time they get tested in court and changed. The ESA had a sunset and it has never been allowed to take effect. It is time for it to go away. U.S. Sen. Craig Thomas is attempting to change it in a small way. I'm sorry, but it doesn't need to be changed -- it needs to be done away with. We no longer need it and our economy will not swing back to the positive side until it is gone. Protection for any animal or plant can be voted on by Congress after evidence has been brought before them as proof it needs protection. That is the way our government was meant to work. It sure doesn't need to be determined in our court systems.

The ESA is abused each and every day. The wolf is a great example. The wolf has been listed, but how can it be endangered when they are abundant in Alaska and Canada, not to mention other parts of the world? The wolf is no where near extinction in the world. There are plenty of them. Just because one state or one county doesn't have any doesn't make them endangered. It's time to stop this zip coding of animals for listing. You see, that's the stupid joke they are playing with this act. This is the abuse that has been brought to this act, and many others that cause them to be tools to break down our freedoms and livelihoods. They don't do good things, they do harm with this abuse.

It's the same with our firearms rights. The federal and state governments keep attempting to pass laws that violate the rights of free people. Regardless of what the Constitution says, the people we elect to represent us don't. The Bill of Rights only tells us those rights given to us by God, as free people. The government has no right to take God given rights from us. They have no right to interfere with our lives or tell us how to live them within societal norms. God gave us the Ten Commandment's to live by. These are all the laws we need.

In closing I want to say this, that all animals on earth will someday be extinct. That includes humans. Man has changed the world from the beginning. Man will continue to change the world. I believe that everything on this planet was put here for our use. I don't believe in abusing the earth, however I do believe that we should manage and control it to our best advantage. If man doesn't control it nature will, you don't see dinosaurs walking around anymore, do you?

The wolf was eliminated from the lower 48 states because they interfered with other activity that humans wanted and needed the land for, to grow food. The Buffalo had to go for the same reason. We needed the land to grow beef and other food. That was changed and it was a good change. It also allowed us to take the land from the Indians for our use. This is known as progress. Now we have people attempting to do away with this progress and regress us back to what it was like before all this took place. That, my friends, is stupid and will not help anyone. We are a great nation because we continue to grow. To maintain our power and freedoms we must continue to grow. So stop these idiots who would turn us into a backwards third world country, ruled by a few elitists.

It's up to those who are representing us in Congress and in our State Legislatures to make these changes, it's up to you to demand them.

God Bless America.
Michael E. Cook, Coos County Sheriff, Retired.
I fail to understand why the Congress and State Legislators spend all the time they do on stupid, frivolous legislation
maybe the Sheriff should study the issues--then he'd understand!
they should be worried about the economy and budgets.
The Sheriff needs to read the newspaper every once in a while!
The government was never meant to be the largest road black to the people, it was to help us.
maybe the Sheriff should read a HS history book too. The government is there to maintain "checks and balances" among competing interests, among other things.
we should insist that they do away with about everything else they have passed into law back to the civil war and start over.
I guess the Sheriff is white and rich.
I think it is time for a review instead of passing more laws. We should demand that review and make it a law that they can't pass a new law until this happens.
The Sheriff can get a petition going and present it to his representatives.

"we need to make a new law that you can't make new laws"????
Many laws and acts, like the Endangered Species Act (ESA), started out with good intentions but they have turned into disasters and destroyed industries and displaced families.
The ESA has earned resentment from those who are affected by the protections it guarantees. Is there no need to protect dwindling wildlife?
Protection for any animal or plant can be voted on by Congress after evidence has been brought before them as proof it needs protection.
so now congress will add the burden of doing the USFWS's job in addition to worrying about the budget, etc. I thought the Sheriff wanted the congress to stop worrying about frivolities? Not only that, with the political "checks and balances" in effect in the Congress, a threatened species could go extinct before a vote was brougt to congress. Oh yeah, that's the idea!
That is the way our government was meant to work.
How is our natural world supposed to work? Are we supposed to do away with wildlife? Is the government that is elected by people, some of whom value wildlife, supposed to allow this to happen?
The wolf has been listed, but how can it be endangered when they are abundant in Alaska and Canada, not to mention other parts of the world?
the ESA is not a frivolous law. If the Sheriff has questions about how a species is listed, that info is available. There are reasons to protect certain populations of wolf in spite of the fact that some poplulations are thriving.
this is the abuse that has been brought to this act, and many others that cause them to be tools to break down our freedoms and livelihoods.
When the ESA was passed, it was obvious that at some point it would affect people's (and corporation's) freedom to impact the health of endangered species. that's why it was passed! To protect endangered species!!
It's the same with our firearms rights.
Let's stick the the topic OK?
Regardless of what the Constitution says, the people we elect to represent us don't.
Somebody voted for them--or did you mean the current President?
all animals on earth will someday be extinct. That includes humans.
The Sheriff seems to be in a rush for this to happen.
I believe that everything on this planet was put here for our use.
So now we make public policy based on the Sheriff's beliefs?

As humans, we compete with each other for the use of the planet. The ESA just makes it a little more difficult for one group to go in and competely use up an irreplaceable part of our planet.
however I do believe that we should manage and control it to our best advantage.
If he means "our" as in "all Americans", then he should support the ESA. If he means "our" as in "the Sheriff and his friends", then we see the real reason why he wants to do away with the ESA. The Sheriff must be poised and ready to cut down all trees and bulldoze all land, because otherwise he and his interests will lose out to some other group that will do it first!!
The Buffalo had to go for the same reason.
why would any rational people do away with an animal like the buffalo? They survived on the native grasses and didn't destroy the riverbanks. They were easy to catch and had a lot of meat and fur for the investment. I've read they were destroyed because nobody "owned" them. So when vactioners shot them from the windows of passing trains and left them to rot and feed the vultures, no one complained that they had lost property--except the Indians.
We needed the land to grow beef and other food. That was changed and it was a good change. It also allowed us to take the land from the Indians for our use. This is known as progress.
We needed to clear the land of buffalo to make room for cows? I wonder why this happened? Because Americans only like to eat European animal meat? Because it was too easy to herd and slaughter buffalo? Maybe the ESA would have protected the buffalo?

What allowed us to take the land from the Indians? The Sheriff should stick to writing tickets and let people who read and understand history make decisions that will affect all Americans forever.
To maintain our power and freedoms we must continue to grow.
When all the land is paved over, how will we grow? Annex more territory? We need to use our intelligence and manage our economy to grow within the limits of our world.
So stop these idiots who would turn us into a backwards third world country, ruled by a few elitists.
Don't forget, the US installed and supports these elitists. When a foreign country does manage to elect a leader that is a populist, the US overthrows them as in Nicaragua, Chile, Guatemala, Panama, and now in Venezuela.
It's up to those who are representing us in Congress and in our State Legislatures to make these changes, it's up to you to demand them.
illogical and unresearched demands are easily shot down. Is this the best you can do Crowdog?

We have all read and re-read some of the absolutely stupid comments posted by our friend here. If anyone could explain this line to me it would make my day.

I find it funny how so many "environmentalist" issues, "welfare" issues, "social" issues in general boil down to that stupid opinion. It all comes down to "white" and "rich". Its not about the plant, the animal, the ozone, or whatever topic these low lifes choose for the day. Its the complete jealousy of what they label as "white" and "rich". The key here is THEY choose the label of "white" and "rich". These are the same people that often call us racist. By us, I mean free thinking people that choose our life and families over causes they cry about.
Its odd how their logic works., if you can call it logic.
"white" and "rich" What a pathetic opinion to have. What a pathetic excuse to use. What a pathetic person you must be.
Yet people like you would have the testicles, the guts, to call me and people like me a racist.

You deserve no more comment.

Dimrack--

You must realize that both the 14th Amendment to the Constitution that guarantees "equal protection under the law" and the civil rights laws of the 1960s would be eliminated under the Sheriff's wish.

If you're white, you may not realize this, or if you do, you may not care about this, or you may resent it.

Also, it would avoid the Constitutional amendment establishing the progressive income tax.

Is this what you want?

What needs to be put into law and inforced is the extremist like you and Daniel Patterson be made acountable for your waisting of tax monies that we pay.
You make an ileagal stop on the side of the freeway and take photo's of land with roads or trails and claim it's all ileagal. As usal you talking out your butt.
D.P. makes a video and claims it is not stadged in anyway for the peer groups fight to clse Glamis. Yet the desert tortise that was smashed was a still that was taken on the side of 58 that goes through Mojave.
The rider shown on the quad by the closed stake was set up and stadged by D.P. The lizard that was shown dead in no tracks was killed and stadged to make things seem more real.
The false info that was used and related items used for the Milk weed also known as loco weed in west Texas.
All these false facts has cost a lot of waisted tax dollars that could be used some where it is really needed. They should have to repay every dime.
Look at the fools that are burning the free peoples SUV's. There should be no place for these fools to hide and thank God I can say I am in no way attached to these groups. I value human life any day over bugs and weeds that have no value other than that to suit these extremist whitch are the root of the loses we lose. They are the ones that do the most damage to people and to the earth. Butting in playing God and trying to control life.
We need new laws alright , to rid us of your kind. There is no place for terroist in the US. I say boot them out.

you should check your facts. there is a frontage road at the Calimesa site where I legally parked and took the photos. Ditto for the other sites. It makes sense doesn't it? If people could stop and unload their toys to tear up the land, there must be a spot to park and take photos. icon_biggrin.gif icon_biggrin.gif

since we're talking about nature and the environment here how about we go to "survival of the fittest". This puke blusky wants my land and I disagree, so can I eliminate him and his kind???

Rooster, your points are well taken. Unfortunatly your trying to talk logic with a man who does not understand logic. As we see everything to him is now political and appearantly now race based. As soon as the environment becomes a race issue, we should realize what we are dealing with. You could supply him with facts but the mind is closed to them. I have no idea when the dunes became race related but Lorne has managed to do it. Must be that it was white guys that came on his property and got the ball rolling. Maybe if he ever wants to discuss politics, he could take it to another board and I would be happy to discuss my politics with him.

Yes I know Tom, this foolish little person doesn't like me anyway. I know the owners of the land he claimed the first time around he stopped on the shoulder of the freeway and snapped the photo's.
You should have seen how quick he urned everything around.
I used to be willing to listen to a enviro spill his garbage and try to understand
but this enviro nut and D.P. have turned me against the ones that relate to this group. Hell his on kind over at the Desert board see how lame this one is. These bisuriuor's foul the air for all their kind. They are the kind that kills the effort for a real need when it comes along. So we all lose having to deal with these kind of losers.
