I have been following the thread started by demp223 on the Stainless Perforated Floors and it leads me to a few questions on powder coating. First I tried to search the forum, as I am sure some of you are tired of answering the same questions but the search function still doesn’t seem to be working. So here it goes

Question 1) in the flooring thread I saw many different ways to mount the flooring. The one I thought looked the cleanest from the top view was the pictures posted by painterjoe. He had welded the flooring to frame. With his screen name being painterjoe I not sure if the frame is painted or powder coated. Which made me think of my first question. Is it possible to mask off areas of a frame so they wont get powder coated?

Question 2) Wiring. I was at Suspensions Unlimited a few weeks ago and on their floor they had a newly welded frame that had the holes drilled for wiring and a copper looking wire that had been pulled through. I am not sure if this was welding wire or some other type of wire. But would this frame be going to the powder coater like this. Once back from powder coating are they able to attach the electrical wires and pull it through the tubes? What would keep this "cooper wire” from getting powder coated or sticking to the frame?

Choice of floor and mounting method varies between builders. Sand cars will run floors such that sand will easily come out. Race cars will run a solid floor fairly tight to keep the water out when racing. Dual sport cars are more often solid floor with small edge gaps or corner relief's to allow sand to come out. It's all personal choice.

Yes it is possible to mask off areas of the frame that you do not want powder coated. As for the wire installed through the frame, yes, it goes to powder coat that way. Usually the wire is bent over on the ends so as not to be pulled out of the frame by accident. Usually the powder coater will just bend the wire so it will not lay against the frame. It is not a problem sticking to the frame. It is there so you can pull your electrical through the frame after powder coating.
