Aluminum or steel? I've heard bad about aluminum. They that bad? Sure are a hell of a lot lighter. Any brand best? My buddy has a Black one but I can't recall what kind it it is.
This will be for a Banshee if it makes any difference.

My renthal actually lasted quite a bit longer than I expected. It is aluminum and is still on the bike but has alot of wear on it. I wanted steel but no one had em in the stock size. I would say go with steel unless it's a hill bike only. If your looking to save a few ounces of rotating mass, you won't be worried about the longevity.

If you have the cash, there are the hybrid sprockets with an aluminum core and a stainless tooth ring along the outside.

I get steel they last longer, but with your paranoia about weight I would go with paper mache laughing.gif thefinger.gif icon_biggrin.gif

I have had the renthal for 2 seasons now no problems. keeping the chain adjusted and lubed will help the sproket last longer. Hey how did the bike run?

It's usually a good idea to replace both sprockets and chain at the same time for even wear, especially if you are not running an O/X ring chain . . .

New Banshee is runnin great.

The old Banshee front sprocket is toast. I got a new one, new RK Xring and figured I get a new rear sprocket to make it all nice. I have a hookup at a local shop. Don't know if they can get Sidewinder. Might look into Tag or Renthal.
I'm going back to stock sizes.

Nice x-rings seem to be the way to go. I have a DID x-ring with renthal sprockets on the new ride. Going to break it in this weekend.

My preference is steel and o ring chain. My old cr250 had alm and std chain when i bought it.didnt last long in the sand.Went to steel and o ring.hardly had to adjust the chain after the first ride sprocket looked new after many rides. And never really felt a drop in power.

On my atc 250r it still has the org steel and it is in good shape just replaced the chain recently. It had an o ring i replaced it withthe same.Pricey but in the long run worth the money.
