As most of you know I have a log running in here on a 2 seat busa powered rail build. I need the diff to finish the frame mock up which won't be here till Thurs. of next week. I am taking this time to build another singles seater. I started the frame yesterday, I have to have it finished by Thurs. of next week so this will go pretty quick. The 2 seater is priority but I need to have them both ready at the same time.

Motor in the single seater is an 01 Honda 929. It will have 2 Brothers exhaust, powercomander, and a few other goodies. Frame travel is 22 inches up front with Fox 2.0 airshocks and hydraulic bump stops. Travel in the rear is 18-20 inches with Fox 2.5 airshocks, hydraulic bumpstops, and airbags with onboard nitrogen tank. There will be lots of billet parts and a custom paint job that is a little more eye catching than my current single seater. I'm leaning toward some negative image 3D stuff.

here are a few pics of the frame and the jigs I've built since yesterday......

Here are some pics of some of my tools. I use a bench top mill for notching all my tubes. I built the tube bender myself . It is air over hydraulic and capable of a 119 degree bend. I spent all of 190 bucks on this thing and it does the trick just fine for me. The last pic is of my new favorite tool I got in yesterday. It's my slow saw and cuts through metal like butter with MINOR sparks and very little debris. I got a hook up and only paid $480 for this thing new. They list for like $800.00 I think icon_biggrin.gif anyway, thought a few of you might like to see the bender I built, it is cheap and easy to make for anyone wanting to have one on a budget. I bought the dies from Pro Tool, the air over hydraulic jack at harbor freight, and the square tube is some scrape I had laying around...

HI turtle
What made you go with the 929 engine?
yoshi
My buddy wanted to use my paint booth for a few nights to paint his truck. He gave me the motor as payment so it didn't cost me anything.......
HI turtle
What's your single seater going to weigh? Looked at your video of your 600cc rail..seems to run pretty good. Are you going to change the sprocket/gearing with the bigger engine? What hp does the 929 put out? With MC powered rails, what seems to be the weak link in the drivetrain?....clutch, chain, etc?
yoshi
Single seater weighs 930 pounds. I'm leaving the gear ratio at 6:1. It seems this is a good number for just about any MC powered rail. Worse case senerio I don't use 1st. gear but that is fine. Very few of these rails see past 4th. gear and it better to be too peppy off the line than to lug in 1st. I haven't noticed any weak links in the drive train. I had a few issues with the chain tensioner at first but that was due to cheap bearings. I bought some better ones and made my own tensioner out of teflon and haven't had any problems.
hotwheels000
CBR900rr in mine and I can almost destroy the clutch at will, probally the way i drive. I have made it a week in the dunes on the same clutch but I drove like my grandmother. I believe I need to add a lock up and that should solve it from what I am told.
yoshi
what's the angle on your front shocks set at?
Carl P
I like the bends in the cage. Very clean!

Thank ya, I workin on the front right now, after I get a few more bars welded up I will upload some pics. Should be about 20 min. or so. I made a few modification of the front end to get a 10 inch stroke shock up there versus the 8.5.....
yoshi
k, it took me a little longer than 20 min. to get the front end mostly complete. Here are a few pics as of now, I will make more progress as the night goes on.....

I didn't get to work on this Sun. but this is the the progress I made today. I will finish the undertail section tomorrow. I will then pull it off the jig and weld up the cross bracing for the sides. After that gonna weld up tabs for the suspension components, center bearing carrier, and mounts for the motor and then the frame's done. I then need to build the jigs for the a-arms and trailing arms.........

forgot to add, the jig comes apart in sections. I spot welded the main upper roof jig bars to the base for the time being. After it is done, I will cut the tubes in half and weld some angle to the top of the bottom one. I will weld the bottom legs to the jig base. It will stick up about 2 inches and the top part of the jig will slide in and out of place. You can see what i'm talking about from the nose section. There was a jig holding up the top 4 bars in the nose in an earlier picture. In the latest pics you can see the top half of the jig missing and the bottom half has the angles welded to it. I should be able to get the rest of the frame done today. I will post the pics later this afternoon...

Got the rest of the frame done today. I will pull it off the jig tomorrow and weld up the last 3 braces on each sides lower section, and the last few tabs for the suspension. I unbolted the top inside parts of the jig for the picture. Not bad for 5 days work eh, lol.

The diff for the busa rail came in today so I will be focusing on the 2 seater build for a bit. I will be building the jig as I go along just like this single seater. Hope to have it done in about a week. I am building new bearing carriers for both the single seater and the 2 seater. Soon as I get them finished I can build the trailing a-arms......

The frame is all tacked together. I will get the tabs made tomorrow and then move on to the suspension jigs. Starting on the 2 seater tomorrow so I might not be updating this for a week or so until the other frame is built.

thank ya much......I left ends of the tube open on the upper frame roll bar. I am having some trick little tabs built that will press into the id of the tube. the tabs will be drilled for flag mounts or can be used to hold a light bar/flag combo.

Holly crap, I forgot about this log. Well, this was gonna be my personal single seater but I ended up using the frame to build a roller for a customer so here are the pics I have. The customer also purchased a busa motor from me with my new sprocket drive. It left the shop at the end of last year......

and yes, that's a standard 5 gallon gas tank under the rail to show close to full droop...

These are a few better shots of my center carrier I designed. This is from another rail I have in the shop now, I didn't get better ones of the other rail before it left. The only difference is the pics below have a single inboard brake where the busa rail had dual outboards. The carrier is 5.5" in diameter, has (2) sealed 3.5" od bearings, 1" thick with 2 oil seals just to be certain no sand gets in. The billet aluminium pieces that go in both ends have an offcenter hole. You loosen 2 pinch bolts on the bottom and twist the center section to tighten the chain, no tension and basically just like a quad swingarm for chain adjustment..

In the first pic you can see the spline sticking out the right side. We actually cut that off leaving a 1/4" showing which we groove for a c-clip. There is a flange with a weld yoke attached that has the id machined out to clamp around the clip as the flange is tightened that secures the clip. The shaft is attached to the other side already with a pin that is kept in place by the ID of the left bearing. The center carriers are setup with a weldyoke attached to the left side solid and a bolt up one on the right.

[attachmentid=135115]

These are also the axles that left with the rail. They are now standard for my rails. 1350 u-joints with a 1.5" heat treated 4140 shaft. The weld yokes are machined out to 40 degrees. There is a boot that covers the splines as well but not pictured. We made the splined stubs for a few sets including these but found an easier way. Also below are the slip yokes we made. They have a 2" od tube and we switched to a 2.5" od tube....

And here it is on it way out to Arizona. I called him yesterday (and about 3 times a week making sure he hasn't had any problems finishing the build, lol) and he said first test run is this weekend so i'm looking forward to how it goes, I haven't driven a busa powereed single seater yet and I know it's gonna effin scream.......

Never seen a wood top jig table before....
I use (2) 1" thick pieces of MDF for my table top with aluminium cchannel on the edges to make sure I have a good edge to measure from. The rest of the table is a boat load of 2x2 angle, 1/4" thick with 6 heavy duty caster wheels. I prefer a wood top, I can draw on it and weld splatter doesn't stick to it and prevent the metal from laying flat. I tried to set it on fire once, I put a piece of plate metal down and welded a blob on the side so it was eating into the table and it just smoldered and dug a pit. Weld splatter digs small pits but I can just blow it off the table with an airgun and the table stayes flat. I replace the top every so often but only after i've turned it over. The table is 6'x8' and 21" tall....

Oh yeah, people are always surprised to see how much bigger this thing is in person than in the pics. Here is a pic of this rail when I took it in for weighing. It's on a 16 foot trailer and my truck is an 00 F250 4x4 for a size comparison...

I used your frame to rebuild the back of my jig to house the motor mounts and bumpstop cans after I lined up your motor. That way I can pull all the future frames outta the jig and flip them for welding and their done (instead of lining up every motor to every frame). Your frame came outta the jig a few hours ago and now we just need to finish up some of the welding and it's done. You already saw the pics of your trailing arms, my employee is building your upper and lower a-arms right now. I then need to line up the sprocket subframe off your motor to make sure it all fits good, then I can ship it to you. I'll send the axles, spindles and bearing carriers later, I know you have plenty to do before you need those parts anyway....
