I got a new CD player for my truck for Christmas. Looks to be about $100 at a shop to install. Anyone here REALLY know how to install? Like Professionally or semi Professional? For cheaper? I know I need a cradle, not sure wwhat else. I think I get that from a Chevy dealer.

With the parts you need that's about the going rate. Most places charge about $45 for labor and you need a kit, harness and ant adapter for most chevy's. I manage the Clairemont Tweeter and can get you those parts for about $12 but the labor is the labor. Call me if you want to do it. 858-277-8003 Dave

Just go to Best Buy or Circuit City and get it installed there. They'll swap it out with the old head unit when you sell your truck later. Remember, they have lifetime warranty on labor at those places.

Best Buy wanted $100. Just seems like a lot of cash when I know theres a lot of people out there that change em out quick. I might take sicaz up on his deal. I defintely dont want a hack job.
To hell with my stock unit. Its full of sand and barely plays a disc.

That's all you need. If you get the parts, I'll hook it up for a 12er (Nati) and a 20. The parts should run about 40-50. Call my cell 619-571-4932, Chris.

I don't charge friends to put CD players in simple trucks. Let me know if you want to save some cash... that install is very easy.

I have a quick question, I am looking for a switched 12v wire behind my radio somewhere. It is a 2004 Silverado with the stock stereo. I am running an iPod converter box, and it had me run one wire to constant 12v, but it kills my battery so I think it is mislabeled and needs to be switched 12v. I've had the meter out, and can't find one.

How about a touch screen navi, 3 subs inside of a molded fiberglass box, with 2 sets of components with a TV tuner and dvd player and surround sound with a 15 inch LCD?

If I'm not mistaken, there is something kinda different about the switched wires at the back of the radio in the new chevy's. Don't remeber exactly what it is, but if memory serves correctly, the switched wire can only have a very small current draw or it will burn something.....Can't recall exactly, but be aware, and do some research.

There is no switched power behind the 2003 and up Chevy radio's. It has what they call a Class 2 Serial Data harness so you have to go under the dash and grab it there. Yoy can get it in the ignition harness... the Accessory wire is Orange and the Ignition wire is pink. You really want the Acc. wire so it will turn your radio on with the first turn of the key or if I recall on Chevy's, the turn back puts it in Acc as well. The Ignition wire will turn it on with the secong click of the key when the fans and everything else are on.

Get yourself a multimeter, switch it to 12 volts, pull the panel under your steering wheel off (7 mm bolts). You will also have to pull the metal panel off that is behind that as well (10 mm bolts I think). Find the ignition harness, look for the orange wire, ground the meter, poke the meter's positive probe into the orange wire and turn the key to the first click. If it reads 12 volts, you got it. Also turn the lights on at the same time to make sure there is no drop in voltage. T tap the wire, run the red wire up to where you want it and you're ready to go. Turn the key off when running the wire though.

That's a different story. I need access to a woodshop to do the fiberglass work.

Thanks I'm glad it wasn't just me. I had tried every wire, but couldn't find one. I will find a wire under the dash.

Haha, I wish I had all that stuff to put into my car. We should be getting a shop here soon, so maybe I might have a few things up my sleve.

Thanks Nick....I knew there was something about them that was fck'd up. I did an 05 for my cousin, but he wanted it to be wired constant anyway, so I didn't really have to fck with it.
