Scat has been saying they are gonna break out with the new heads for their type 1 mega case (101mm barrels) for about 3 years now, I'm kinda wondering when this is gonna happen, my case is growing dusty, and I'd love to put this thing together.

Anyone got any contacts?

84 x 101 = 2800cc (ish) good grunt motor, lots of low end.

Thanks, I check every year @ the SEMA show, but it's always the same story. "Yea I'm gonna have to look into that"

Glad I'm not in a hurry, maybe some kind of crate motor is in order to tide me over.

78 X 101 = 2500 CC's or 152 C.I.

82 X 101 = 2628 CC's or 160 C.I.

84 X 101 = 2692 CC's or 164 C.I.

86 X 101 = 2756 CC's or 168 C.I.

88 X 101 = 2820 CC's or 172 C.I.

90 X 101 = 2884 CC's or 176 C.I.

Tom Lieb (Scat) and Pat Downs (CB Performance) have an annoying habit of leaking R&D project info way too far in advance. Just as you're waiting for Tom's heads, jugs and piston sets ... I'm waiting for Pat's fully electronic FI (new and improved) system ... tick, tick, tick ... as the years go by.

Tom has been a strange duck for years.. He does make it difficult to buy from his store.. icon_biggrin.gif

If I wanted to dive back into this project, whos saying I HAVE to run the Scat heads? Would an Autocraft blank be able to be drilled for the new head stud pattern? What about being bored out for the 101mm barrels? Any one think this will work? I would rather wait till I can buy right off the shelf, but my buggies been sitting for too many years.

*sigh*

Forget the Scat stuff and buy/build a 2800cc TYPE 4 EFI motor. I had one that was built by Adam Wik Racing (Las Vegas)and I installed CB Performance's EFI kit on it. That was an awesome motor for tourque and horsepower, and was absoulutely bulletproof!, but... It nowhere even comes colse to the ponies and tourque that my Subaru 2.5 turbo puts out. If you build a TYPE 4 with all the good stuff (Scat crank, Porsche 2.0 heads etc.), be prepared to $pend around $18,000 shocker.gif

Has anybody already built an engine like this for dunes?....I like the idea of big displacement VW motor....but at what cost?

It just seems a shame to boat anchor the case, crank, and rods now. Already was going in a direction ......... icon_sad.gif

i don't think it's worth it unless you're going to pay big bucks...

I had a 2498 type I. It ran great for three seasons. great torque.. Not really a problem at all except for the standard stuff. Once it started to go though, we could hardly keep up..almost $500 everytime we turned around...

Looked into a built 2700cc type IV but FAT performance wanted about $15,000 for it, and that was five years ago..I paid $8,000 for the type I
