While we are packing up and getting ready to leave, I hand all the kids in our camp trash bags and they run around to all the surrounding camps to pick up trash. Then we stop the Ice Truck and I buy them all Ice Cream......
It makes them feel good to contribute as well as teaches them young to also respect the desert.

Just a suggestion to get people involved......

That's what we teach in the Junior Duner sessions... we give each participant a bag and tell them that every time they come out to visit, on the last day of their trip, they have to go through the whole camp and go as far as their mom and dad say it's okay to go, picking up all the little pieces of trash no one else seems to notice.

We remind them that when we are gone there are other animals that live here and we have to take care of them so we can come back and visit. icon_biggrin.gif

They always take this task very seriously.

Im so glad other people are teaching the young ones respect for our sport. The kids at our camp always took their trash picking up very serious, and almost as a contest to see who gets the most. It made them feel like they made a difference and then they would make comments about those who left the trash in the first place.
Its a small step to take and an easy one. But I really hope people will do the same and see the pride in those little faces.
