Slap, tonight I went out with my best friend, his son and his wife to dinner. Jen, his wife, started remarking to me about how she had popped onto the site for some reason or another and spent several hours reading through all the threads. She was aware of the site and how much I was involved with it but had never joined up and had never spent more than a minute or two on the site.
She started reading a few threads I had started or was mentioned in and then moved along to whatever caught her eye. She ended up in the beginners and newbies section and what she said made me very proud. She noticed all the varied members we have, how not all of us were macho, experienced, sand in our craw duners. She felt more comfortable with her newness to the dunes after reading a thread about how folks were initially scared of the sand when they first started going out. She saw that there were many folks like her that were just beginning to understand the dunes.
Jen also remarked on the friendliness of the newbie section. She saw people who had never met each other making plans to camp with one another at 13.5 on such and such a weekend. She saw how we help out the members with the tech sections and rather than being a big fraternity where you have to posture to be accepted, all you have to do is post once and you'll be part of the group.
Yessir Slap, I was very proud of how our tiny little website has grown to such a huge family but we still manage to keep that small family vibe. Thanks for allowing me to continue to be a part of such a great piece of internet realestate.
