Unless you are da leader of da group, you will most likely experience quite a bit of roost from your buddy that is in front of you. And, there are times when the leader will experience roost, but it comes in the form of blowing waves of sand off the tips of Mothers ridges when the wind is blowing. So no matter what, you will eventually get a face full of sand that finds its way into your goggles, and soon your eyes are screaming, "SHASTAMCSNAPPLISH."
There is one single tip dat was passed on down to Slap that can help reduce sand in your goggles up to 90%. First, get yourself some tape (any tape will do, but masking or duct works quite well). Second, get out your goggles and locate the foam vents that are above and below the lens (some goggles have vents on the side also). Third, cover all vents with the tape so that there is no foam showing (don't put tape on any of the foam that touches your face, only the foam vents). You can get creative and use various colors of tape if you would like. THAT'S IT...Now put on them goggles and go dunin...
Use this tip the next time your out on Mother G, and you will find that riding in the back of the pack ain't so bad. It won't keep every single grain out, but it will drastically reduce the amount of sand that enters your goggles. And, there hasn't been one report yet of a lens fogging up.
This really helps if you ride at the back or in a sandstorm. You will have a much better visual of the person in front of you along with the obstacles around you. Soon, you will be RIPPIN A BOWL, AND SINGIN A TUNE...So, cover them vents on your goggles and get out there, your eyes will thank you for it.
