Full Version: What Weird Buggy Problem Have You Had?

I had one that stumped me for a while. The car would run well at idle and no load snap throttle, it also ran well untill it was out in the dunes, then the bastard thing would pop and loose power, roll to a stop and the thing would run perfect.
eventually two days later after we replaced everything and thought of everything I was playing around with the distributor, the cap was off and I noticed that the electronic module moved, I tightend the module and the problem was solved.

Any more weird problems out there?

crank pulley bolt kept coming out no matter how tight i would get it, finally ended up removing the gas tank so I could get an impact on it, it's lasted all season.

Here's a weird one. Every time I lead a dune ride, the rails behind me get smaller and smaller, as if they can't quite keep up.

I'll stop for a while and they'll catch up to me again, then when we take off on another run, they seem to fall behind again. It seems to happen more in the larger bowls, but it invariably happens, especially the longer we run, the farther back they are.

It's odd.

I may need to see the doctor, the older that I get the less this happens. When I am at the sand drags I used to say "I want to do that", now I say "MAN THAT LOOKS DANGEROUS".

Yeah, I guess I see what you mean.

Kinda like my mom's friend, she's about 80 and blind as a bat. Every time they go anywhere, my mom likes to ride with her because it's an adventure, they never know who she'll hit next or if they'll even make it, sometimes they end up in the hospital.

she even bought a new house for about $600K, but never moved into it because it was too far from the shopping center. One day, she and my mom set off to go see this house she never lived in and she had forgotten what street it was on! They drove around for an hour or two and finally stumbled across it.

The moral of the story is, it sucks getting old!

I had some weird problems when I had my car, for some reason, my reverse did not work and then my whole transaxle went out costing me $3k to fix it. Then I always had cv issues...........

I dont know what the problems were, but I cured them when I converted to a th400 tranny icon_biggrin.gif tongue.gif tongue.gif

Took off for a ride, went through some radical whoops and my car suddenly starts missing(approx. every couple minutes). Sort of like it was being turned off at the switch and then back on again. I decided to head back to camp and check if something had come loose. Everything looked fine. Then, I decided to start it again and "bingo" no power. To make a long story short, the battery was wasted. Apparently after hitting the whoops for the umpteenth time the battery fell apart internally(non gel cell). The alternator therefore, was powering the car but delivering to many volts to the system, which caused the computer to shut the motor down. It was later that I also realized the extra voltage fried my external power cord to my GPS. My battery was hard mounted to the frame, now I've added some rubber to dampen the blow. JT
Temporary Insanity
Here's a "Funco only" issue that I had... On my old GEN 2, when I would go fast through whoops or into a dip, it would feel like the car would tug as if I was tapping the brakes, or as if I was pulling a trailer and it was tugging on the car, as it turns out, the problem was caused the braided rear brake lines being attached to the top of the trailing arms (instead of the sides), which caused the air bags to press on them at full bottom out, which inadvertantly caused the brakes to apply by the pressure being squeezed on them. blury.gif It was a simple fix though.

I had a spark plug wire that would arc to the frame under load (Jacobs Ignition). The car idled fine and would drive at moderate load, but would die when I got on it.

I didn't find it until night time when we saw the arcing.

Interesting alternator problem early this year. Alternator went out, Figured over a years worth of sand had just had it's way, so I replaced the alternator. Looked great at home, so I put it on the trailer to go to G. First ride out was a night ride...Alternator died again, barely made it back to camp. Turns out the resistor in the harness had a "heat sensitive" type problem. When it was cold, it worked fine...as it heated up, it either went out of tolerance enough or shorted, and caused the alternator to pop. Changed out the resistor, problem went away..but I did about three trips with a spare alternator in an ice chest strapped to the rear seat...icon_wink.gif
