I want to be able to ride my 03 Raptor more in 3rd and 4th gear.Has anyone out there changed either the front or rear sprocket or both???Stock is 13 tooth front and 40 tooth rear.Did you have to replace the chain?Thanks....

Drop the front to a 12 and it will be perfect. You will not have to change the chain.

I know that only Stunters drop the front tooth on Street bikes as the likelihood of a kink in the chain for making a smaller bend is greatly increased. I would say go up 2-3 teeth for every tooth you wanted to drop in the front.

I have ran a 12 tooth on the front for the last two seasons without any problems. There are many who have done the same and I have not heard of any problems with chain kink. If you were to drop below a 12 tooth, I could see that as more likely of a possibility. The 12 tooth still makes a nice turn, just make sure the chain slack is adjusted properly.

Yep, I got an '01 Raptor with a 12 tooth, no problems at all... Best MOD I have made!

There you have it a 12 tooth front is still a smooth 180.
