Well, our last 2 trips were up at Glamis, and then this weekend, we finally got back to the homeland....Gordon's. I've grown up at that place and it was great to get back.

Friday night was a little rough, we came in the flats at about 8P, and it was dark....really dark, and all the roads heading north that we normally take were super soft. I was driving a 4X4, but my pops is behind me in a 39ft DP moho. After selectively choosing a route, we end up getting out to the area where we normally camp.....then I found a tar pit. Went in and it took 3 hours and 2 trucks to get me out.....That just ruined my night. But the rest of our group showed up at about the time I got out....3 more moho's, 1 being a 37ft DP with an enclosed behind it...yeah, he got stuck too....but right in camp, so that is where he stayed the rest of the weekend. I was already aired down, so I ended up pulling everybody in our camp out excpet my pops before we left.

The desert was freakin empty, the dunes weren't all beat up, and the weather was absolutely beautiful. Couldn't have asked for a better weekend as far as that goes. And then there was the company, man I really miss camping with my group. The last 2 trips I was a visiter in other groups, and that was fun.....but nothing beats your friends. Feel in love with off weekends again....no one buzzing by your camp in the middle of the night, no assholes charging thru our camp in golfcarts, just nice and mellow. So relaxing!!! Then, on sunday afternoon as the few other camps around left, we charged around and scavenged their left over firewood and had a raging fire last night. Early monday morning ride, and we were the only ones out there....unbelievable!!! Just really loved this last weekend and thought I'd share!

I know the tarpit you are talking about. We sat and watched at least 30 rigs get stuck there over Prez Day.
Glad you had a good time.
I hope it is just as good this weekend.

Can someone explain what the tar pit is?? I drive thru there alot and have never had a prob but i was way soft last weekend! Id like to avoid this if possible.

when we left over presidents day it was the first time I almost got stuck, that sand was soooo freakin soft it was crazy, I was literally doing about 30mph over the whoops. Must have been a site to see. F550 pulling a 40' 5er catching air.

Tar pit.....Like the ones in barea (sp) I think where all the elephants got into and died because they couldn't get back out....

Huge area of very soft sand that when your in, you sink

I am going to camp where I saw people over Prez Day... Go over the bridge, go left about 50 yards and stop..... Just don't fall in the canal. 25bangin.gif

Last weekend.(11th and 12th) Phoenix got a pretty good winter storm.....did Yuma or the dunes see any of it?
brokebrotha

It rained from friday night into satutrday. The sand was soaked. No dust, lots of traction. I'm sure the sand was well rutted after that weekend. When we got there on Thursday afternoon, even going left and running along the canal was super soft. Should be better for our next trip on the weekend of the 24th.
