With all of the talk of the th400 auto being cheap and almost bullit proff, does anyone make an adapter plate for this? 2.5 subi to th400

If anyone does it would be kennedy, but do you think that the 2.5 subi is going to have enough torque for that slushbox.
Everyone says they can handle loads of torque, but I am pretty sure they need lots of it as well.
Might be cheaper and better going with a sbc.

Was looking at Outback's turnkey 500 hp 2.5. It doesn't show torque specs though. I guess I will need to call them. I am looking at building a 2 seat mid enging 2.5 w/th400 matted to a winters quick change. I want the enging to be as short as possible.

I agree Kennedy would be the one to talk to

I was close to buying a powerglide off of someone on the board, I think it was carlp. I think he said on another post he would build another setup for someone.
If he does it, he might have a idea on which engines work best with these auto trannies?
If the motor is a 500 horspeower motor torque shouldn't be that far behind.
So I am pretty sure the torque on that would be sufficent, the only concern would be what rpm level it comes in at and what stall speed the torque converter is, but I for sure would talk to someone with experiance with these setups.

The bigger problem is making the transition from TH400 to the wheels and finding a frame that it will all fit in. A TH400 coupled to a Mark Williams or Quick Change will be a VERY long setup and will pretty much require a custom frame.

(not sure since I don't know my auto trannys well but I think that may be a powerglide in that photo....)

Actually due to the torque converter autos give an effective torque multiplication. It's one of the reason that rockcrawlers and trail 4x's with smaller motors sometimes prefer to run an auto.

TCI has some good info on how converters work:

The frame will have to be custom built... The pic is what I am looking for. Just need a way to mate it to a subi...

If you are using a subaru you may just look into the subaru auto, it has lots of hi/po parts available. Some of the drag cars have some serious hp in a front wheel drive configuration. Converting it to mid engine wouldn't be hard plus its light.

Yes, that's a Powerglide.

And another reason Rock Crawlers use them is they don't have to worry about another shifter, just working with the transfer case is enough.
