i dont know what the problem might be but i had a 85 lt250 and i had the tranny rebuilt cuz it was shot and the gears were hard to find. some werent even made anymore. so i hope that it nothing that bad but just to warn you it might be hard to find parts. im not sure. ours is a few years difference. but good luck.

YOUR SHIFT FORKS MIGHT BE BENT. I RAN INTO THIS PROBLEM BEFORE ON A BIKE ON TIME. IF THE SHIFT FORK LOOKS STRIAGHT IT IS BENT. SHIFT FORKS ARE SUPPOSED TO HAVE A SLIGHT CURVE TO THEM. IF IT STRAIGHT IT IS NOT LETTING THE GEARS ENGAGE FULLY. IT CAN CAUSE THE DOGS ON THE GEARS TO WEAR OR CHIP, THEN YOU HAVE BIGGER PROBLEMS. THE BIKE I WORKED ON WOULD POP OUT OF 2ND AND INTO NEUTRAL THEN ONE DAY NO MORE 2ND GEAR.

ill have to check that, because this is popping into neutral from 2nd gear all the time, thanks for the suggestions!!
