This just in from the California Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation Division:
Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) registration guidelines have changed. The type of registration sticker issued this year to your OHV may be different than previously issued.
Previously, OHV's manufactured after December 31, 1996 and not certified to California emission standards would receive a "Red Sticker" instead of the traditional "Green Sticker." OHV's with Red Stickers are limited to certain riding seasons at many California OHV riding areas (http://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/offroad/ofhwymc.htm).
Under the new rules, ALL 2002 model year and older OHV's will be issued Green Stickers, regardless of emission compliance. Only 2003 model year and newer OHV's will be issued Red Stickers if they do not comply with the emission standards. Your OHV should be issued a Red Sticker if it is a 2003 model year or newer and you see a "C" or "3" in the eighth digit of your VIN.
