Anyone runnin E85 in their car??? It's 105 octane. Alot cheaper than premium and race mix
Josh @ DanZio
I've ran straight methonal before but never have messed with ethanol. We have thought about it, but have considered only using straight ethanol as opposed to E85. If it was more available at the pumps, we would really consider using it, however if I have to go that far out of my way to get it, I may as well just have a couple drms of straight ethanol delivered.
GlamisSpider
They ran a article in Sand Sports a while back about the benifits of using it, but I think you have to have your engine custom tuned for it.
CripKnievel
isnt the tune just in your computer?
Josh @ DanZio
Yes you would need to retune it. Most likely would have to run larger injectors as well.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but I have a ? I'm running 1/2 91, 1/2 race gas. I have heard that race gas goes bad quick. Do I need to drain my fuel cell while my baby sits in the garage for the summer icon_sad.gif I have about 10 gallons in the tank.

I would hate to mess up my new LS2 by Danzio. By the way, Josh and Chris, you guys 1dude.gif Thanks for the excelent service and bad arse motor.

What I do is run the tank empty on my last run, as best possible. One time I pumped it all out by detaching the hose from the fuel rail, then turned on the fuel pump and drained it into cans. I used the race gas for my lawn mower. Yowwy.

There's always a little left in the tank, but at the beginning of the season I fill it up with fresh gas. I've never had a problem storing it this way.

I have a friend that simply puts fuel stabilizer in his tank, I think that costs about $3-$4 at pep boys for a bottle that treats 20gals. It seems to work for him. I have used stabilizer for my Seadoos for the last 10yrs, works fine, but that's with pump gas.

It's always nice to bring friends...but not necessary....just jump in some of the night run threads in the connections forums (gatherings area) and roll out....Tons of the people from the board make these runs...nice to met new people and the dunes are prestine!!! Been doing this for the past 2 summers and it's awesome!

I'll be hitting some night rides, your more than welcome to join in. I'll keep you posted. As far as the fuel goes, use it or lose it. Not worth the couple bucks to run it and it's gone bad.

sorry fo the hijack

Sealed should be able to be good for a few months. There has been many debates on this, but I personally have not had any problems with sealed fuel lasting this long. I have had fuel that was sealed in 5 gallon jugs that went bad over the summer while sitting in a cargo bin. If it's gone real bad, it will smell like paint thinner and loses it's color. If this is the case, throw it in the trash. It's not even good enough for the mower.
dertwerks
depends what kind of race fuel. VP has a very short shelf life1-2 months. F & L has a shelf life of two years, so their rep. told me. We have a 35 gallon can that we have let sit for 1.5 years, will get it tested at the end of next month. Two things to keeping it live longer, keep it cool and store it in dark(won't let sun light in) containers. Why did i ever check the shelf life of Race fuel????? I own gas stations, and wanted to put race fuel in all of our stations, so we wanted to check all shelf lifes. The more you buy, the cheaper it is. burnout.gif

BIG THING IS DON"T LEAVE IT IN THE SUN. That stuff goes bad in less than an hour. I had 5 gallons a few years back of 104 and left it in the truck bed for my 3 hour drive to the dunes. After it was all gone by the end of the weekend there was a nasty hard sludge that had caked itself to the bottom of the container. The rail was running bad by the end of the weekend because my carbs were getting clogged up. I didn't know any better and had never heard about gas in the sun going bad but it does. My gas rep told me I would have been better off running 87 oct. than that gas after it seperated.....
richierichaz
Yeah never leave it in the sun.. I let someone use some and they left the gas jug out in the sun after filling their bike and the little that was left went bad. Noticed it 2 days later and it smelled like paint thinner so I was just going to dump and burn it up and couldn't even get it to light. .

Business sucks!!!!!!! Just to let everyone know, we(independent gas station owners, not big corp) are loosing our butts. Every one should try to buy gas from the little guy. Yea, yea, i know, he is 3 to 10 cents higher, but if everyone buys gas from local owners, they will be putting a hurt on the big guys. Radio, tv and others have tried this "lets not buy gas on so and so date thing". never going to work. every one will fill up the day before, or after, so no loss of business. But, if we go to the "little guy", we can make a difference. How??? Lower gallon sales would result in a lower price due to lack of sales, Lower sales would result in the big guys selling the non profitable stations to the "little guy", in turn taking loss on the property, equipment and so on. It only takes a matter of weeks worth of poor sales for a major corp to want to turn over the station. So, either one of two things will happen, they sell it, or LOWER the price. Anyways, right now, the "little guy is making on average 2-3 cents a gallon. Not even enough to keep the lights on. Wouldn't you rather pay 3-10 cents higher and help out the local guy, or get your gas from the big corps and support some giant corp bastard(s). IF ANYTHING AT ALL, DO NOT BUY GAS FROM ACRO, they screw even their own end retailers. They sell product for retail, lower than they will sell fuel to their end retailers. Why???? Cause they do not want the competition. They are trying to force everyone in to buying from the "big guy", namely them. I know most of you are saying, there is nothing we can do, and buying from the little guy is not going to do anything. If anyone has any better ideas, besides WATER, let me know. We are all not going out and buying a Hybrid, or some elec. piece of crap. And we sure as hell need to stop going out and buying some ricer car. Keep your money in America cause when it comes down to, WE AMERICANS CAN ONLY COUNT ON US AMERICANS!!!! GOD BLESS AMERICA AND SUPPORT OUR TROOPS. 1dude.gif Now, go do the right thing.

Geez Tom.... That's probably not the best icon of choice for this discussion!

We had a barrel of pure alky, but burned up the engine a few gallons into it.

Since the stuff attracts water and doesn't last that long after opening, we tried the OPPOSITE

85% Gas, 15% Alky in everything.
My Raptor (used to run rich) loved it.
Sand rail did well.... no real noticable difference (since then tore down the engine... everything including valves looked good)
Did not try this in any 2 stroke applications.
