I am gonna buy a quad and I had singled it down to the Z400, but when I tell people that they tell me to get the Banshee instead. Does anyone know the major differences between these two?? Thanks
Mister Ed
If you are new to the sport you have no business on a banshee. This is a very high strung and unpredictable machine. It has virtually no bottom end power but it comes on very strong when you get in the power band. If you want to ride fast this is your machine. The 400 on the other hand is a 4 stroke based machine. It has low end power and is very predictable. If you are the casual rider who just wants to ride around and not win any drags, this could be your machine. You are looking at two very different types of machines here. The Banshee also requires a bit of smarts. One has to deal with jetting two carbs on thes quad. You need to be honest with yourself here, because one of these quads is not for you, they are that different from eachother. This is just the tip of the iceburg here, there is so much to consider.

Not to mention, z400 has one of the best factory suspensions to date. That bike is fun to ride and hanles really well. Yamaha hasn't updated the banshee since it went from j arms to a arms around 90-91. The Z is definetly a much more beginner friendly bike. Also, check out the kawi, same bike as the Z, but I think kawi is running a much better financing deal right now

just cuz she's a woman why do you guys give her the beginner lecture?? biggrin.gif    hahaha...

these guys are right. the banshee is a bike that you basically are always riding with the throttle pinned. there is no 'cruising' on a banshee. the motor is just not set up for that. at first the bike seems like it has no power, then all of a sudden when your rpm's get into the 'powerband' it's like someone turned on a switch and the bike wakes up all of a sudden. that's what turned me on to the banshee. when you're duning you better make sure you're always in that powerband if you plan to make it up hills, and when you are there's virtually no hill you can't climb. the z400 has power throughout, so you can basically tap into the power at lower rpm's. you don't always have to be on the throttle. the z400 handles much better than a banshee... banshee suspension sucks. a banshee will go through at least twice as much gas as the Z400. My buddy has a (crap)tor and we duned all day together. I went through 8 gallons of gas and he only went through like 3 gallons. the z400 probably would have went through even less than that. The Z400 takes plain 91 octane gas where the banshee requires that you mix premix oil into it.

hope this and the other comments help a little bit.

Just what they said!..

As a side note, by buddy did the Kawasaki financing deal, no payments until July this year. His girlfriend wrecked it a couple of weeks ago, and totaled the front end and plastic.. He has not made one payment yet LOL
