I have a Northstar V8 Sandwinder, I am guessing 2000 pounds or so?? I have two very nice, cambered ramps, rated for 750 pounds each would work much better than the fold down ramp on my flatbed. The fold down ramp is too short so the angle of approach is too steep and the car bottoms out on the trailer on the way up.

Is it safe to assume that since the entire weight of the car is not on the ramps at one time as part will be on the ground or on the trailer during loading, and that there are two ramps to distribute the weight that they would hold?

Thanks,

Walt

Hit it in 3rd gear, you will be fine... peace.gif

Or stick a block of wood or a jack stand under the middle of the ramp..

Can you raise the front of your trailer? maybe Air bags in the back of the truck or a jack on the trailer?
That might get kinda scary in the sand?

lets put it this way, I had 2 aluminum ramps that were rated for 1000lbs total, I drove my Polaris ranger (1250lbs. with me in it) up those ramps, the front tires were off before the back tires got on, and as I just drove off the ramps with the back tires the middle to end portion bent and the tabs on the ramp ends broke off.

So, just in case have a landing mat underneath you, I would get some beefier ramps, for what it sounds like you are risking, the cost on new ramps doesnt seem that much.

Just have some gussets welded in for extra strength.

FYI, that car is 1800lbs icon_smile.gif

Thanks, I am going to take the trailer to a local welding shop for some simple mods to make it work better.

Thanks for the 1800 number as well - Walt

free tip. hook trailer to truck back up to the curb in front of your house lower ramp, angle should be ok now. when unloading look for a dirt mound somewhere.

Ramps? We don't need no stinkin' ramps..

The driveway thing is what I have been doing. Its just a pain because I have to block traffic in front of my house. The trailer needs some tweeking anyway, as its not wide enough. The car is 97", and I dont feel like put on the little tire each time to get it on the trailer. When it gets widened at the shop I am going to have them extend the ramp a little bit to fix the approach angle.
