Yep looks like that's it! The larvae of the white-lined sphinx moth.
These things were all over the desert during Easter. When I was driving in there were tons of them crossing to road and they were all over our camp site. Some tried to walk off with my beer cooler!
I saw orange and green ones.

Get yoself some Robbie, you be correct. The White Lined Sphinx Larvae...This little guy is a healthy one, nearly five inches long. Slap found him in a sweet spot where the Primrose, Verbena, and sunflower was all growing together just North of China...He was real active too, and reared up when Slap got close, dong a sphinx like posture. Very soon he will burrow underground, then emerge as the White Lined Sphinx Moth.
Great job Robbie, Slap's gonna be sending a Slappy Package your way

. Slap don't know if he's got your info already, but just in case, send your info to slappymcduner@hotmail.com
CHEF, you are always a winner, TEXAS STYLE...
