Get the Mex. insurance online and take your cheapest car, just in case you do get hit.
Drive very defensively and you'll be fine. Rosarito isn't that far south.

They drive crazy down there...I've been down there a few times and you definitely have to be very defensive while you are driving.
And take a hunk of junk car so it doesn't get stolen

If you are really worried about driving down there, Make sure you drive during the day, Do not do anything stupid, Do the speed limit and make complete stops at all stop signs, I never buy ins. Its like only 40 miles from the boarder if that. If you stay at the hotel they will have good parking for your car.....Have fun and dont worry about every little thing.

Just went down there a few weeks ago. Stayed a few miles north of "downtown" Rosarito. The parking at the hotel is good. The biggest issue driving is the madness when trying to cross the border anytime between after 10am on the weekends. That crap sucks. Just be sure to litterally ride the bumper of the car ahead of you.
Tequila shots anyone!!!!!!:ifly:

Tell him to leave the gun at home. Also if he is an avid outdoorsman or shooter go through the vehicle with a fine tooth comb to make sure there insnt a round under a seat or in the trunk. Other than that drive like your 80 and watch for the signs they can be hard to see sometimes.

NO FIREARMS NO DRUGS.
Get the insurance. Its not a waste of money. Spread your money out a bit - a bit in each pocket.
TJ driving is the worst - pay attention to the signs. Take the Toll Road is correct also (Having some 5s and 1s vs 20s is a good thing).
Plan on spending some quality time at the border waiting to cross coming home. Make sure you have a full tank of gas prior to crossing.
HAVE FUN and Respect your host nation and rules.

Ive been lucky down in mex. Only got windshield wipers stolen from me. Beware of your sticker of your tags being taken off. Razorblade down the middle would detour that. Get Mex insurance and all should be good.

exactly, get about $60.00 in 5's and 10's in case you do get pulled over for anything, its alot easier to pay the cop pulling you over than driving to their nearest police station to pay a fine and buy the mexican insurance, in case of an accident american ins. wont do you anygood w/ mex authorities
have fun

Alright I need some help/advice.
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have traveled all through Baja extensively for decades and I have never had more than a hassle of one single traffic ticket.
Some tips:
* Get good insurance. AAA will only sign you if you own the vehicle. I use "Instant Mexican Insurance". They support the OHV and SCORE racing community. Get the best coverage for property damage, collision and liability and I opt for the legal services.
http://www.instant-mex-auto-insur.com/* Your trip to Rosarito will be easy and short. The only hassle is getting through Tijuana. As soon as you cross the border take the small on ramp to your right and you'll be on your way.
* Do your very best to always park your vehicle in a place where you can see it at all times, in a locked area not so visible from the street or in an area patrolled by a guard 24x7.
* Take your time and watch for slow moving vehicles from cars to trucks and buses. They are the biggest hazard in Baja.
* Do not bring firearms of any kind. Not even a bullet.
* Do not drive drunk.
* Do not bring any illicit drugs or paraphernalia of any kind .
Here is an excellent page on crossing the border in both directions.

Get the insurance. I use a place here in Chula Vista and have been using them for years...Sorry I can't remember the name. They are right off the I-805 and "E" street next the Burger King. They are very helpful and if you come back early, they will refund you the amount for the insurance you didn't use. The insurance only costs like $20.00 a day for full coverage. It's well worth it.
Try and get a map before you go and see if you can get someone to talk you through it who has been. As you first drive across the border, be in the right hand lanes. The road you want will ease to the right at first. It's Highway 1.
Expect a long wait if you use the San Ysidro border crossing to come back. I have seen it as bad as 4-5 hours coming back waiting in line. Bring drinks, snacks, bottles to pee in...You'll be glad you did...trust me. If you can figure it out and can read/speak spanish, the Otay border crossing is much better...maybe about an hour wait. Still bring the drinks, snacks, and pee bottles.
When you have to stop at intersections in TJ, be forceful in telling the vendors and window washers/car wipers "NO!" They will get you everytime.
As said before to...don't put your money all in one place. If you get pulled over because it was just your lucky day...(yeah...I've had this happen)...Be very respectful...tell them how sorry you are and that you didn't mean to disrespect them. They will ask you for a large amount of money...offer what you feel is worth it to you to not be harrassed anymore.
The guy pulled me over and said I was speeding...I was trapped behind a TJ school bus...I was not speeding. He wanted over $200 US dollars for my ticket...I told him I only had $40 and that I really wish he would take it and enjoy doing something nice for his family instead of me just paying the ticket at the police station...which I told him I was prepared to do. He took the money and thanked me...we both left on our way.
***Edited for one more thing...***
Bring about $10-$20 in change. The toll roads hit you up for about $2.25 a pop there and back. I think a trip to Ensenada there and back costs about $10 in toll fares.

1) We don't carry guns so thats not an issue
2) We will probably be in a caravan of people with my cousin Javier in front and if anyone is pulled over he will stop and talk them out of it.
3) Its not like we are going to be parking in seedy areas the car will be behind a HUGE wrought iron gate at my cousin in laws house for the party.
4) My cousins family is VERY well known in Rosarita and if any problems they will get us out of it if anything happens.
We are just going down for a family party and then we will be back on our way home.

Hi guys, we just got back from Rosarito yesterday and had no problemos..
We went with Dirtlee and family and we all purchased Mexico insurance that was referred to us by GMAC Insurance. We got full coverage and I think we paid about $120 for four days of coverage. Don't forget your ID's and just in case take the baby's birth certificate so you have some form of ID for the little one. The weather was great, the food delicious, and the cervesas ice cold. Enjoy!!!
Plan on creeping out of there if you leave on a Sunday. Took us a little over two hours to get back over the border. Less time if you leave on a week day. Have fun..
