A recap of what's above, but a message I sent out to numerous groups / clubs/ friends...feel free to repost this elsewhere!

Hi all,
Regarding the latest truckhaven threat...it looks like it is very real. I have found out some info that may help our cause so please read this entire message and ACT on it!

The law firm that agreed to host the tree-hugger's fundraiser to buy TruckHaven and close it to the majority of off road use is getting nervous about the calls coming in. We pushed a phone effort on Pirate4x4.com last week and apparently that, and the efforts of others, has caused the law firm to think twice about hosting the meeting and they may cancel it if it gets any worse. That said, it's time to apply the presure as we only have until Tuesday (that's two days away!) to push them to cancel.

As a background, I called the ABF (the tree-hugger group trying to buy the lands) and did not say my position but gave the idea that I was an environmentalist. The lady, clearly comforble with speaking to me, stated they were definitly planning on aquiring large portions of the TruckHaven area, especially the areas the off-roaders are destroying. She went on to tell me how ORV's were endgangering the big horn sheep population as well as the indian history and ancient ocean shoreline in that area. She continued...They, the ABF, would be able to stop the off roading vandals, and would only allow minimum access to street legal vehicles on a couple of miles of trails that have historical precidence.

She went on to explain that the Off Roaders had been very rude on the phone and that she was telling them they were not welcome at any ABF functions. Remember, she still thinks I'm on the "green" side. She explained very clearly that one of the ABF members worked at a law firm that agreed to host their fundraiser. She explained that the fundraiser was critical to their effort as they had to raise a large amount of money before June 30 in order to make the July 8 financial deadline that is part of this aquisition. The only problem is, the Law Firm had no idea it was such a controversial issue and they were considering cancelling the meeting as they do not want the conflict reflected on their firm. The calls that keep coming in are scaring them.

That is where we have leverage. If we show the law firm the error of their ways and explain to them that the OHV community will be at their meeting to tell our side, as well as to bring media attention to the issue and the law firm supporting the extreme environmental angle of killing motorised recreation, they may just cancel. Cancelling the meeting helps us.

What you can do takes only a few seconds. Call the two numbers listed below and tell them you will be at their meeting to support motorised recreation as it has been in the TruckHaven areas for decades. You will be their to voice your opinion plus will be bringing the media in the forms of television, newspapers, websites, and blogs and will be sure to include the law firm's hosting of such a radical group's fundraising and planning efforts.

Then, even if they call and say the event is cancelled, we need to call, acting as a tree-hugger, to ensure it truly is cancelled...they may just "pretend" it is cancelled calling all of those from the ORV side to say it is cancelled, but going ahead anyway ithout us being there. That would hurt our effort if they were sneaky and got away with it.

People...this is something to act on...you have to win a few battles in order to make any progress in the war. The problem is the OHV community isn't even showing up to most of the small skirmishes...instead, we are relying on a few underpaid and overworked landuse people within our club/United/BlueRibbon/etc. to fight our battles. Well, in a real war, the "special forces" still need backing from the infantry! Pick up your phone and call.

Call the "Offices of Buchanan Ingersoll" - the Law Firm we need to show is at risk from the publicity that comes from something like this - (858) 509-7300 - tell them you and your friends (state a number) will be there in protest and to bring light to their law firm's stance on this tragic threat to our recreation rights. Be nice, be professional, but be firm that this is WRONG!

Call the ABF (the enviro group that is hosting the fundraiser) and tell them you and your many recreationalist friends will be there to be sure our message is heard, even if you are not allowed in. (760) 767-0446

For more info on this effort, you can read the original letter and the discussion that follows at the following link: http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=483061

I am leaving town Monday morning to travel to a competition so I cannot carry the torch any further. I have done what I can and it is up to you all to make a difference. John Stewart and the other representatives bust their butts to help fight for our lands...you can do something now...place a small phone call and if they (the ABF) come up short in their fundrasiing, we'll find a little breathing room. Make the calls, E-mail this message to everyone that you know, post this letter on forums...TODAY!

WE ONLY HAVE TWO DAYS! Take the 5 minutes and possibly make a difference. Then follow up and make sure it was cancelled..if it wasn't, plan a tailgate party for Tuesday night at the meeting. The meeting etails are as follows:

Tuesday, June 20, 2006
5:30-7:30 pm
Offices of Buchanan Ingersoll
12230 El Camino Real, Suite 300
San Diego, CA 92130
(858) 509-7300

To those at SD 4 Wheel - TDS / and Just Runs...can you please pass this on to your club...TODAY!

Rock On,
Dustin Webster
