Full Version: Faster quad on dunes?

I've seen them race eachother a few times but it was sooo close... >:<
Poiks
Depends if you mean stock or modified. My guess is that the Raptor is faster stock, but it's not hard to make a Banshee spank a stock Raptor.
Derwud
Depends on the Rider. I've only lost to heavily modified Raptors.

raptor off the start but banshee crosses the line first

18 votes for the banshee and 0 for the raptor.

bansheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
DS650-FOX
I think that a race on normal ground under same conditions the Banshee and Raptor and DS 650. On the sand the Banshee can use its low end power better and its top speed. I think that the banshee may be faster in the sand, but so many factors can determine the outcome, paddles, # of paddles, etc...

CRAPTOR!!!!

I've never ridden a stock Banshee, but they look slower than sh** stock. A Raptor has to beat a stock Banshee.

what low end power???
SD4x4TRD
All that low-end torque!
GenghisQuad
Banshee in the sand all the way. Stock vs. Stock or mod vs. mod. The torque on that 2 stroke is out of control.
:dozey:

But you have to hand it to Yamaha for being the only guys to build two monsters like this.

Where's Suzuki & Honda? :black:

When i had first got my raptor it was stock...at the same time my banshee was also stock... we did some timed course and the banshee won...same rider STock VS STOCK...same place and time.... now that my Banshee isant stock and my raptor only has a pipe it gets blown away...mabey thats why my raptor is for sale Ü

I think it really depends on WHICH Raptor: The California Rap or the 49 state Rap.
I have a 49er and I spank the CA Raps, even ones with the CT exhaust (I have FMF muffler, but stock pipe & Uni filter, stock jets)
I can consistently beat Banshees  .

Beating banshees surprised me. I was not expecting this. It is possible that they were not experienced riders, but I am not that experienced, either.
treshombre
I think the predator would win biggrin.gif

A stock banshee won't beat a stock raptor. A friend has a stock banshee, and it was going side by side with a 400ex with just a pipe. Raptor (stock) will kick the crap put a stock banshee. Now spend 6 hundo and get a set of t5's on that banshee, and it's over for the raptor. Banhee will go alot faster for alot less $$$, but right out of the box, raptor's got my vote.

The question of 'faster' has a lot more to do with the rider than the bike in my opinion.

Unless you are drag racing in a straight line (was that what this thread was all about?) the bike plays a lot less of a roll than the rider.
I learned on 2 wheelers and then 3 wheelers (I still love the 250R!) and am just now learning how to effectively ride the quad. That means that almost any good rider on any decent quad can kick my butt in the dunes.

I get bored pretty fast doing the straight line thing. Going fast in the dunes, especially leading requires a lot more than a fast machine. You have to be good. Someday I will be there!

I have seen it myself, and sad to say as an owner of a raptor the banshee will get there first. Depends a lot on the riders as well though...[/b]

We have both the raptor and the banshee. I would say banshee for sure the Raptor cant even compare. The banshee is faster, handles better, and does better though the rough. I think the Raptor is a good old person bike electric start, reverse, and all.

Do you have a CA Raptor or a 49 state Raptor? There is a BIG difference.
c-diddy
what do they do exactly to make it a california bike?i have a california raptor and would be interested in making it faster.
anyone out there put a new cam on their raptor?
Chummin
hmmmm. I know on the street bikes there is a big difference between the CA version and the 49 state version but I have never heard of this applied to the ATV sector..
I would like to see proof becuase no one ever lists a AVT with the "CA Emission starndar" on the ad etc..

On the street bikes the carbs were smaller and the timing was different. In some cases different cams were used.
Cookie
Faster where is the key.....A stock Banshee kicks a stock Raptor's butt on a hill climb (sand). On the flats, probably pretty close. A Stock Banshee continues to accellerate up Olds the whole way while a Raptor is stuck in 3rd gear.

I don't know exactly, but I know for a fact they are different and carry distinct VIN numbers.
If memory serves correctly (this is suspect) the 8th (and possibly the third?) character in the VIN will either be a "C" or a "3" if it is a CA raptor.

What does this mean? Not sure, but probably less compression, different carbs or jets, and timing. Interesting question... What exactly ARE the differences?
c-diddy
if we can get a answer on what the differences on a california and out of state raptor would be greatly appreciated.i am going to make a move on making my 01 rap faster up the hills.any suggetions.
Bansh88
Cram your plastics on a Banshee! Then your Raptor will be faster.

Will be curious to hear exactly what the differences are.
I can say this:
Don't do what this guy did!

We do have a california raptor I guess im gonna need to ride an out of state bike
SUPERFLY
My cousin has an old airstrip on his property and they recorded a raptor going about 74 mph with a radar gun on dirt. I dont know if thats faster than a banshee. My freinds cr80 beat my 250 fourtrax on that same strip with ease.pissed me off.

You're welcome to try mine out...
I will be at Oceano Dunes from the 13th to the 17th of July. Hopefully I will have the larger jets installed by then so I can run without the choke on full!!
treshombre
Top Speed on the Predator .... 73 MPH Bone Stock.

The one thing I dislike or better stated one of the things I dislike about both the Banshee and the Raptor is the dual Carb setup.

It's hard enough for me to keep one carb jetted correctly..... Now add another??? I'm out to ride not fiddle with carbs.

But if thats your thing ..... Cool have fun.

I think they have kits for those bikes that combine the intakes to one carb. sounds like a hassle lester. Then sink some more money into the suspension.... even the new Yammy 450's aarms are not wide enough.
Don't understand why they don't get it right out of the box. Sounds like a competitive bike otherwise.

Now when that Honda 4 Trax comes out with the 660 motor......

It's only taken a Honda rider 1200 posts to figure it out.
