Public meeting on OHV grant proposals scheduled

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) El Centro Field Office and Arizona BLM Yuma Field Office have scheduled a public scoping meeting to obtain public comments on the off-highway vehicle (OHV) grants being submitted to the California Department of Parks and Recreation, Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Division.

The meeting will be held on May 12, 2003 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the BLM El Centro Field Office located at 1661 S. 4th St, El Centro, CA. Individuals with special requirements are asked to call in advance.

The workshop will provide the public an opportunity to review and comment on grants being submitted by the El Centro and Yuma Field Offices as part of the grant application process. BLM staff will be available to discuss/provide information specific about the grant applications.

The grant requests will provide the two field offices funding for costs directly related to planning, managing, and coordinating their off-highway vehicle programs. These grants will fund activities such as route rehabilitation, plant and animal monitoring, law enforcement, and interpretation.

For further information, contact Neil Hamada (760) 337-4451.

Yeah, I'm sure mine will be waiting in the mailbox when I get home.

The grant proposals are going to be discussed at the meeting on Saturday too, and we'll be recording comments so they make it into the record.

Another meeting has been scheduled for Tuesday, May 13th at 9:00 a.m. at the BLM office in Moreno Valley.

I'm going to be attending an OHV leadership meeting at the exact same time so I don't think I'll be able to give any input.

The meeting tonight in El Centro will be a great place for a little one-on-one conversation time with the BLM. The meeting tomorrow might get a little bit lively, we'll see. If not, it's also a great chance to speak to BLM representatives.

Vicki, if it is at all possible, do you think you could suggest a meeting be held in Blythe? Two summers ago they held a meeting here in Blythe regarding the NECO plan. They arrived to find several hundred not to happy people. The entire city hall was filled to standing room only and there were another 100 or so standing outside. They were absolutely grilled at this meeting and they looked to be in shock! One of the BLM reps said that it was one of the largest meetings he had seen. Any info would be appreciated. If it is possible I can guaranty a huge turn out! Thanks and good luck, less us know the outcome of tonights meeting!

I don't see much hope for a Blythe meeting for this particular issue since the grants have to be submitted by May 15th.

BUT there will always be other public information meetings that the BLM is required to set up. I don't see any reason we can't campaign to have one in Blythe. We could use one in the LA and San Diego too, according to the statistics of who actually goes to Glamis.

MAY 15! Bummer sad.gif To bad, like I said, the meeting held here was a thing of beauty! smile.gif Never seen such a worried looking bunch from the BLM. laugh.gif And not a tree hugger one was there! biggrin.gif Or at least they were smart enough not to open their mouth! :cheese: Just thought it would be a good idea. Thanks anyways! smile.gif

Interesting meeting.

The law enforcement grants are pretty cut and dried but some of the other things really bothered me. I'm making some phone calls before I say too much, but we, as Glamis lovers, may have to make a stand.
