Okay so I have a 02 Chevy Silverado 2500HD. I need to get the steering wheel off. For some reason it has started to flop around, almost like the tilt key cam loose or something but I think it might be higher in the colum then that, just the wheel it self flops, not the colum. Don't know if there is a bearing in there that might have slide out of its bore or what? How does the steering wheel come off? Anyone have a diagram? Anyhelp would be great. I would really hate to have to take it back to the stealership, Especially when they couldn't find the rubbing noise in the steering colum the THREE times I took it in to them. But ofcourse now I will be "lucky if we cover it becasue of the milage". Freaken dealers angryfire.gif

Yes!!! That is why I always ask before touching those things. Deal said to just disconnect the battery for like half an hour.

I will have to try and get in contact with ElCaminoManT

There are some bolts that loosen up over time. You will need a few special tools to do the job. I do about 6 of those every year at my shop. If you have never been inside of before you might want too take it too a repair shop.

Well tore into it after I got home from work tonight. Wasn't all that difficult. Found out that the race keeper had popped out allowing the upper bearing race to slack up and letting the upper shaft move freely in the bearing. Got all the way down to the last spring clip ring and didn't have the "Correct tool" the one I have for removing that ring was apparently for older model vehicles and wouldn't work on my 2002.... well that is until I decided to make it work with some slight backyard thinking, two long bolts come in handy. Ended up not even needing to take that last ring off. When I loaded the spring retainer plate so I could get it off the race keeper poped back in place, no more sloppy steering wheel. About two hours of work and no money out of my pocket. Looking back I probably could have done it in abuot 45 minutes but it was my first time R&Ring an air bag and after hearing all the horror stories I figured I would take it SLOW and careful.
